What size are the batteries?

small. incredibly difficult to insert. the whole thing is just so badly designed it’s hard to believe. caveat emptor indeed.

What is the distance from floor to the grip at the maximum height setting?

No, they would not get that short. They come in a box that is already about 5"4 and that's as short as they get. I also returned mine, they are heavy, uncomfortable hard to walk with, the knee peg hurts. The bottem of them are very wide and easy to step on. I would agree if you are 4'11 and want these go with the pediatric ones ...
