mexican guitar
I bought this for La Golondrina (or Las Golondrinas), but La Llorona is exceptional- I just finished listening to the accompanying CD, and can't wait to start! I agree that this should be easier to find. This seems like a logical progression from Arizaga's Viva La Guitarra Viva la Guitarra: Las Primeras Lecciones de Guitarra / Beginning Guitar Lessons (Bilingual Edition) (Spanish Edition)

Good Stuff
No time to write a lengthy review, but La Llorona alone is worth the purchase of the book. The rest of the time I'm busy finding new material.

Ruben, this is your brother Andy. I showed off your skills to your friends & my wife, and her family. I never really appreciated your music when I was young, but now I'm able to appreciate just how talented you are. Everyone was quite imoressed with your skills and never again will I ever underappreciate your talent as a mucisian, guitarist & music writer. I'm actually ashamed of myself for not realizing what a talented brother I have.

What I've Been Searching For
This product was surely a labor of love, and deserves to be better known. Despite scouring these Amazon pages for classical guitar repertoire, I never came across it. I found it recently in a local guitar shop. I've added a "tag" so it may be easier to find now on Amazon.Songs include: Donde Estas Corazon?, La Golondrina, Maria Elena, La Leyenda de La LLorona, La LLorona, Noche de Rhonda, Ay, Jalisco no te Rajes!, Solamente Una Vez, Jesuita en Chihuahua, Cielito Lindo, La Adelita. Most of these are well-known Mexican folk songs. As the author indicates, the classical guitar repertoire has almost completely overlooked the beautiful music of Mexico. Although I mostly play standard studies by Sor, Tarrega, Aguado, et al., I find these pieces enormously appealing. The arrangements are very nicely done. I'd rate them "intermediate" to maybe "advanced-intermediate" level. The book includes both standard scores and TAB, is printed on good quality paper, and is easy on the eyes. The accompanying CD has all the songs, and is almost worth the purchase price. Thank you Ruben Delgado, for making this wonderful music available!

Excellent choice for intermediate+ classical/fingerstyle guitarists
Mexican folk music for the classical or fingerstyle guitarist is very difficult to come by, especially in a high-quality printing, in bound form and with accompanying CD. Ruben Delgado has done us all a favor by putting these arrangements, including many favorites like Cielito Lindo, together and having them published in this form. The pieces are, in my opinion, generally for the intermediate to advanced intermediate player. The CD is wonderful, and is worth the price all by itself. If you are not yet at an intermediate level but are interested in Mexican folk, I would encourage you to buy this anyway, just for the CD, and to ensure you have a copy for future use (as, unfortunately volumes 2 & 3 are no longer in print; I would encourage others who are interested to write to Mel Bay to encourage them to reprint these).
