The shorter tips are not quite 3 1/2".I hope this helps. **Q: can the longer cables be used with the special short tips that come with 8" cables?** A: Yes you can use the special short tips with the longer cables. I have both sets and have used the short tips with both types of cables. The best interchangeable sets I have ever used. **Q: I love them, my only complaint is they don't incluce a #1, #2 or #3, and I have not been able to find where to buy just those points to add to my set.** A: Actually, I am not sure the Dreamz comes in a smaller size tip, but you can get the Karbonz Regular length or Special (short) tip in a US 2.5 (which is 3.00 mm) and a US 3 (which is a 3.25 mm). The join is the same as the Dreamz, so all your cables will fit. I see neither on Amazon, but they are out there and they do work.
