Very comfortable but need to size up
I purchased these having not tried Merrell before but had heard good things from friends who have had them and urgently needed to replace an old pair of Northface shoes that should have been replaced ages ago but I'm always reluctant to get rid of shoes I find really comfortable and therefore wear them until they nearly fall apart. I bought the size that I've always purchased in pretty much every other make I've had (NorthFace, Berghaus, Salomon etc) but on trying them on found immediately they were just on the small size and not something I could live with so ordered the next half size up and requested a return for the ones that didn't fit.Since the next size arrived I've worn them nearly every day and used them on a week away and haven't had any issues with them, in fact they felt like a pair of shoes I'd been wearing for a lot longer and didn't require any wearing in. I tend to be very picky with shoes and often have problems with heel blisters when I get new ones. The only issue I did find, but more of an annoyance rather than an issue was a slight noise they make when walking, almost like a slight "crumpling paper" noise. This appears to come from the insole but I tend to swap these out so I'm not that concerned. Overall I'm really happy with this purchase and may well consider getting another pair in another colour.

Roomier than expected
This is my 5th pair of UK size 8 GTX Merrells. All my other pairs have fitted reasonably snugly, including previous generation Moabs and my current Alverstones. This pair of Moab 2s however is roomier, even with thickish socks, and I have had to insert volume reducing insoles in order to ensure a fully comfortable fit.

Nice but flawed
I've had these around the month and only really used them a few times.. I almost returned them but missed the return window. So they're very lightweight and so far the waterproofing has held up, although I've not really put it to the test. They're very comfortable on my feet except for one very annoying problem:When you tie them up properly (i.e. you're going to walk on something you don't want to slip on), the tongue digs into the top of your foot. This seems to come from a design flaw. There is a fold where the waterproof lining meets the tongue which, when you lace them up snuggly, they form like a hard pipe which digs straight into the top of your foot on both sides. I've managed to find a way to invert the fold so they side above the tongue, but it's quite awkward to poke it into place every time you lace up the shoes.Just a bit of padding would probably have stopped this problem, although I'm hoping it'll soften with wear over time. Otherwise I really like the shoes, assuming the waterproofing holds up to the claims.. but this design flaw really lets them down.

Buy at least half a size larger.
My second pair of these, both have been on the small size for the stated size, depending on the thickness of your socks get at least half a size larger. They have a relatively narrow fit but Merrell do a wide fit as well. The shoes are well constructed, my last pair took some serious pounding and clocked up the miles and are still wearable after three years. They give good support for a shoe, as opposed to a boot and my last pair were as waterproof as you can hope for from a shoe, nothing keeps your feet dry in long wet grass except wellies. Good construction has a slight downside in that they are not the lightest shoe going, you want light buy some trainers.

100% waterproof but stiff sole
Great brand with an established record for quality. The shoe fits well but I would suggest you size up slightly by half a size if you will be wearing thick socks as merrell tend to have a narrow, tight fit. Not quite out of the box comfort with the Moab gtx compared to the Moab vent due to the very stiff sole. Good value quality outdoor shoe nevertheless especially if you can purchase for under £70. 😀

Careful with sizing
These are fine shoes but slightly small. I take a size 8.5 in UK but even the size nine is quite a snug fit. I'm sure they will ease up in use but allowance needs to be made for wearing thick hiking socks.

Worrn straight out of the box - so comfortable
Purchased for a break in Wales - arrived the morning I was leaving - wore the shoes around the house for an hour to make sure they were comfortable (they were) and then wore them every day for the next 10 days. Highly recommended - just go for a half size bigger as others have advised.
