Angelus Leather Dye - 3 Ounces, Red

I purchased three colors of dye so I would have the entire RGB spectrum - Red, Blue and Honey (as my yellow but also Procion MX yellow powder dye - purchased separately) - as I wanted to be able to have green and purple as well. I purchased the Angelus leather prepper but then later I learned that it's just equal parts acetone and rubbing alcohol so you can pass on that. But definitely don't skip that step. Just prepare it on your own. I forgot to take before photos which sucks, but I had two pairs of beige shoes that were starting to scuff and I wanted to renew, one was a vintage pair of the Art Company shoes (the pictures I have are cropped from full body pics) - I've had these shoes for years and love them and felt they needed to be renewed. The other pair was a soft leather mule. I mixed the blue and red to get a dark purple, and they turned out fantastic. With a quick wax and buff with red moose neutral wax, they look like new. I'm so excited. The other pair were mules. They were something between leather and suede, a very soft leather. For these I mixed the blue and honey and Procion yellow to make a turquoise/aquamarine color. I didn't do these as well as the dye quickly soaked in and I even accidentally sprayed it a little on one of the shoes and you can see the dots after it dried. It really takes some expertise to get a hang of how to do it, so try first with shoes that you don't love all that much to get a hang of how the dye works. The dye itself is fantastic. I was afraid it would come off as I was buffing the shoes but since it actually absorbs into the leather, it just completely renews the shoe and with a quick shine and buff the shoes look like new, and the color does not come off like shoe paint. I couldn't be happier with the results. I ended up with one pair of purple shoes that I was hoping for and the other pair of turquoise shoes that came out fantastic in my opinion, and I wear them as is, despite the minor glitches with the dye job. One major caveat though - it is very messy! And stains very easily. Even ceramic that I thought would not stain. If you don't scrub it out immediately, it will stain all of your white ceramic. I googled a lot before getting started to learn how to use the dye and it says clearly to put out a trash bag underneath and to make sure you protect wherever you are planning on dyeing. I will suggest a few other good tips that the first time I tried I wasn't aware of. I would wear gloves. I used not only the disposable latex kind but also the yellow dish gloves (pictured - and you can see how stained they are). The first time I tried I didn't use gloves and my hands were stained for days. (I just wanted to test a small area and I didn't realize how messy it would be). Make sure you have everything you need out and ready, including the bowls you'll use for the dye, baby wipes or something else for cleaning as every drop needs to be cleaned immediately. This includes the paint brushes, wool daubers, q-tips for checking/mixing the color - because if you need to open a door or a drawer you will have fingerprint stains on it. I used a syringe to extract the color from the bottles as the first time I tried to pour it, it spilled everywhere and that's how I discovered the difficulty with cleaning it out. So just take a lot of precautions and do it in a place where stains won't break your heart, and make sure you have ways to clean up if it does spill like wipes or paper towels and even a scrubbing sponge. This dye was awesome. I bought it because the color was rubbing off of my red leather purse where it rubbed on my hip. The dye went on beautifully using the applicator provided. The color now is a richer deeper better color than it ever was before I feel like I have a new purse.

I was unsure on whether this would work on faux leather, but it exceeded my expectations. It had minimal streaking but I was mindful to not apply too much at once and not let it drip down the boots. It dries fast, but not so fast that it’s too hard to work with. The odor was strong at first so I’d recommend using in a well ventilated area. Overall I’m happy with the outcome. Will probably use this with other leather/faux leather items in the future.

Color great though stayed tacky for a long time. Fine pigment but transparent so scuff or flaw shows. Easy enough to apply and haven’t used them yet as waiting to dry well

I’ve never attempted to dye leather before, so I expected a bit of a learning curve. The color is exactly what I expected. It was fairly easy to use once I decided on a method. It provides good coverage. I applied four thin layers to achieve the color I wanted. It dries pretty quickly, but I allowed time between. It’s a very thin product, and it doesn’t take much. I’m excited to try additional colors to get the bags I love in the colors I want.

I use these dyes to dye wood. This red one is a very vibrant red.

Used this to touch up spots on my leather sofa. It took way longer than 24 hours to dry. Pretty much a week to dry, and even then it still left a little red on our hands and feet.
