Brush Lettering from A to Z: A Fun and Comprehensive Guide to Creating Modern Calligraphy with a Brush Pen

Hands down the best "step by step" lettering book I have found thus far and I have literally bought them ALL. If you are a beginner and want to learn the basics to lettering with great stroke instructions then this is a great book to start with! I wish I would have found this book when I first started lettering! But I'm still always happy for the extra practice ❤I wish this book had more in terms of projects and space to practice the blending, shadowing, highlighting and practice pages for combining letters and words, as well as a section specifically for bounce lettering and practice because I've gotten my actual lettering down pretty well but have been struggling with bouncing baselines and etc. So those are the reasons for the 4 stars instead of 5. But again, I wish I would have had this book for the beginning of my journey!! Actually, as a beginner book I would rate this 10 stars so ill change it to 5, just hope those who are more advanced in their journey see this!

I bought this book to learn brush lettering and I made the right choice. Explanations were clear. Followed her tips on which brush pen to get and how to practice and it's been working really well for me. I also loved the practice sheet drills.

This book is awesome. I’ve seen tons of videos of people using their hand lettering talents to write pretty words and I picked this book up to learn some of these techniques myself. It is easy to read, the instructions are straight forward, and there are so many practice pages!! The book also recommends several pens and types of papers to use to get the best results. Also, it NEVER specified that it comes with a brush pen so I am unsure as to why other reviewers are upset about that? It states this book teaches you how to do hand lettering WITH a brush pen, not that it comes with one! The book recommends several options so you can purchase what style and price suits you best. I can’t wait until I’m further into the book and am able to find my own style! As a beginner, I found this a helpful read and well worth the price.

So I have been trying to find something that helped me really put everything that I have been looking at and trying to mimic together. This book was finally it. It gave me that aha moment where it all started to come together and make sense. Being able to see how to break each word down into simple strokes has allowed me to get to the next step of my lettering goals. At first I thought that this book may be too simplistic and I wouldn't get anything out of it, but I was wrong :) I highly recommend it as I feel it will help guide you in the right direction.

I just received "Brush Lettering from A to Z," and am absolutely thrilled with it. The first thing that caught my attention was the fact that the author, Emma Witte, shares the same name as my maternal grandmother and great-grandmother! Both Grandma Emma and her daughter June (my mother) were very artistically inclined, so I wonder if it has anything to do with the Witte genes. I am looking forward to spending many hours perfecting my lettering for use in cardmaking and photo album compilation for family members. I know this book will be a wonderful help.

I love this book so much it is very informative and helps you troubleshoot any issues you have with your brushes or brush lettering. but no where in the product description does it say that the book is made for smaller pens.So if you buy brush pens With the book don’t go out and get tombows or any other lager let brush nibs because you can’t use them on this book. Everything else is great also just a bit of advice to the author there should be practice sheets for letter that have different variations like b and s. Really I should rate this 3.5

This is a fantastic book for anyone who wants to learn brush lettering. The book is thorough and easy to follow. I highly recommend reading through it from beginning to end and completing all of the exercises. There is a lot of great information along the way. Emma Witte is a wonderful teacher. She is knowledgeable and detailed while also being funny and relatable.

This is a great starter book for brush lettering. I purchased a pad of tracing paper with it so I didn’t have to write in the book and it is working well.

Only got this because the one I wanted wouldn't be here in time for the birthday - this beauty came the next day, all wrapped in cellophane, a lovely solid, hardback book with an elastic book closer. I took it out carefully to check and it's great. The paper is lovely and thick, and there is enough instruction and then space to practice. I'm very very happy with it and wish I'd had this when I started, instead of the 4 that I bought myself ;-) Thoroughly recommend for the beginner.

I follow Emma Witte on FB and IG and bought this book because I like her work and her really personable interactions with all her creative fans.. She's encouraging, helpful, full of advice and is straight up honest as F!! Her book is a reflection of her everyday work ethics, knowledge and passion for being creative with lettering! She's fantastic and her break down of how to work your brush pens, letter shapes and materials is simple, easy to follow and done in good bite sized chunks. Nothing is complicated or confusing...The reason for 4 stars... I want the work/practice sheets to be bigger!!

I like the friendly way it is written and you feel you are talking to the author.The book is clear and well layed out.My only criticism is that half the book is full of practice papers when this could be full of more information and instruction.

It's a good step by step tutorial for learning one particular script. It won't give you ideas for other alphabets or styles.

This book looked very comprehensive and detailed but I gave it away as a present and the recipient was very pleased with it.
