## Description

Product Description Designed in collaboration by custom knifemaker, Rick Hinderer, and skillfully crafted by Kershaw, the Cryo II is one of Kershaw's best sellers constructed twenty percent larger than the original award-winning Cryo. Equipped with pure, all-steel 410 handles and a durable 8Cr13MoV stainless steel drop point blade, the Cryo II keeps its sharp edge, is corrosion resistant and is ideal for tactical use, rescues or EDC. The matte grey titanium carbo-nitride finish gives the blade and handle surface a desirable vintage, already broken-in appearance and helps to hide additional scratches. assisted opening allows for quick, easy, one-handed blade deployment with a manual push on the thumbstud or pull back on the flipper. The four-position deep carry pocketclip provides any user the opportunity to carry the Cryo II tip-up, tip-down and comfortably low in pockets. Signature to a Hinderer design, the tough frame lock with lockbar stabilizer provides secure blade lock during use. From the Manufacturer The Kershaw Cryo II is 20% larger than the original award-winning Cryo, designed by Rick Hinderer. With its bigger 3 1/4-inch Speed Safe-equipped blade, this classic design was built for those who just demand more from their pocketknife. A classic Rick Hinderer design, the Cryo II is built of pure stainless steel coated with matte-grey titanium carbo-nitride for a no-fuss look that lets the design shine through. Like all Ricks knives, the Cryo II benefits from Ricks real world experience as a fire fighter and EMT. Its designed to be a sturdy knife that's still aesthetically pleasing and feels good in the hand. For secure blade lock up, the Cryo II offers a tough frame lock with lock bar stabilization. The Cryo also comes with Kershaw's Speed Safe assisted opening for fast and easy one-handed opening. Access it with either the built-in flipper or the thumb stud. Though its a larger knife, the Cryo II is remarkably slim and rides comfortably deep in the pocket thanks to our deep-carry clip. EDC this guy for a while and we think you'll soon appreciate its virtues. Flipper: The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle. Speed Safe: Assists you to open any Speed Safe knife quickly and easily. Frame Lock: The knife frame moves behind the blade to lock it into position during use. Quad-carry: The user may position the pocket clip for tip-up or tip-down, left- or right-handed carry.

Great handling, good steel knife. A bargain!

I have made knives and have collected them for years. Each serves a different purpose. Each is beautiful in form and function or it’s given away. This Kershaw folding knife is larger than most I’ve purchased. My fingertips barely touch my palm when gripping it unfolded. The lockup is very secure, to the point where it requires muscle memory training to close it without thought. The finish is a sublime dark gray gun metal. The edges of the scales are polished so it is comfortable - no, a pleasure to hold in the hand and won’t wear away the inside of your pocket. The polish also provides a beautiful, though subtle contrast to the flat planes of the scales. The blade is wide enough to afford a useful belly with a drop down tip that mirrors a tanto design in angle at the point. It appears strong enough to penetrate thick leather and the finger guard below and rounded serrations above gives confidence your hand won’t slip forward during such a stabbing action. The clip is quad-reversible: either side, either end. The spring action is flawless. The knife is flawless. I am very pleased with it.

Best value for a larger EDC folding knife.

*by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2015*

This was everything I was looking for in an EDC folding knife.Design: I have a larger hand and it is a perfect fit for me. The smooth gimping on the blade and the handle were a nice touch. The flipper becomes a hand guard on the bottom when the blade is out. I believe that is a genius addition. I shouldn't be surprised as I see rave reviews about Hinderer designed knives but it lives up to them all for me and this one is well below the price point of other Hinderer knives I looked at.I simply love the look of this knife. I saw it on someone's pocket dump and immediately wanted the look. Blackwash looks great and I'm less concerned about it looking beat up as time goes on.I changed the clip to the top and it fits perfectly in my jeans and khakis. You'll need a T6 bit to move the clip. Some have mentioned it was on very tight and they stripped the screws. No such problem for me with the right tool.Use: Thumb studs are practically useless on this knife and would have preferred them to not be on there. They are too small to use but the upside is they aren't in the way on the knife so I don't take any stars away from it. It may just be my hand doesn't fit in a way to use the thumb studs. I have several knives with thumb studs and this is the first I couldn't comfortably use. The flipper is all I was planning to use anyways and it doesn't disappoint. Always locks well and there is no play in the blade when locked. It is heavy, but in a good way. I prefer the weight but some will want a lighter knife. I don't see a Cryo 2 with the G10 scales so this looks like the only option for this exact knife. As for the blade: Its China steel and has a tapered point on it. I wouldn't use it for prying that's for sure. It cuts well and was pretty sharp out of the box. A little stropping had it as sharp as I want. If you're wondering what degree edge it has (I didn't see that until the packaging came in. It might be on the description but I never saw it) it says it is 18-22 degrees. If you want a great looking knife that is well built and don't mind the weight then this is a great choice.

Nice knife; this thing is SLICK! No, really...

*by I***T on Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2023*

My original Cryo was absconded by TSA because I mistakenly hadn't checked it. After years without, I decided I wanted it back and Amazon had the Cryo XL Blackwash for less than the original finish- looks better for less. What's not to like? Well...It arrived and it is, indeed, a bigger knife; it feels heavier by a lot but after weighing my current Kershaw (not sure what model now), this is only 2oz heavier than that one, which is not a lot, but it's amazing the difference 2 ounces make. Still, I like this knife and size, doesn't feel too heavy in the pocket, and has more surface to get a better grip, H O W E V E R . . .It is a more substantial knife and THE BLACKWASH MAKES THIS THING REALLY SLIPPERY, as in, it could slip in your hand and gore you, kind of slippery. SKETCHY would not be inaccurate. The blade came crazy sharp, making this thing even more terrifying to handle because, have I mentioned, this is slippery!! I struggled for a week or two then settled on these solutions that may help you:1. DO NOT BUY THE BLACKWASH FINISH. This will solve ALL of the safety issues. Period. While it looks great, the Blackwash finish will only serve to contrast with the blood dripping profusely from the now missing tip of your finger and exposed bone. Upside? How many of your friends can count to 9 1/4? You'll be the life of the party at the next kegger. MURICA!!!!2. GRIND IT.That broken in look you dread applying on your new knife may be the thing that saves you a trip to the ER, and your hand from looking like Frankenstein. Not making this up.I took my bench grinder to this thing. As you can see in the pics, the edges are different-looking because I spooled the grinder up to a good speed, turned it off, then touched the edges to the knife gently in a grind, grind, grind, type of contact, rather than a long grrrrrrrind along the edge. The slowing speed is meant to add abrasiveness to make it rougher without taking too much metal off. It works. No, low grit sandpaper doesn't work because the metal is so hard. (did you honestly think I hadn't tried that first? Come on!) I used a Dremel on the gimping since it's so DAMN slippery everywhere. The gimping had to be sharper so I could get some purchase on this thing and not carry a tourniquet. That worked, too! Oh, the flipper tab, that's freaking slick so there's no grip to flip the blade out and your finger will slip off. (Yes, it will) Roughed that with the Dremel but will probably end up cutting notches like I did with my previous knife to keep my index finger from slipping off.3. GET A GRIP. Use Dragon Grips Grip Tape https://a.co/d/9mVP9X1Not only does this stuff work really well, it supports a family business, and it is TOUGH AS NAILS.There's a small, adjustable, lip inside of the tray you load X-ray imaging detectors into on a wall stand. Like the Blackwash Cryo XL, this ~ 2" long, and approx 5/8" wide lip is untextured stainless steel and the only thing keeping the $50K detector from meeting the floor. I've had others slip, but was able to catch them, but immediately broke into a sweat because I was nearly "that guy" who damaged the detector; terrifying! After we invested in this new detector, I put some of this Dragon Grip on the lip and now the detectors are far more secure. Despite the untold number of times every day detectors are taken in and out and rubbing on this lip, the Grip shows hardly any signs of wear and has been on for at least 5 months. STELLAR STUFF!!Because the scales on this knife are SO slick, I had a hard time pulling the knife off the edge of my pocket. As you can see in the pics, I added the Grip to the one side and BAM! No issue pulling it out!! Also worthy of noting here is the fact that the adhesive is so good, none of the Grip has moved from the original placement on the scale, despite the expected temperature and movement inside of a pocket.Hope this review helps to keep your new purchase from becoming knife and death😜!! (see what I did there)*** Just so we're all clear, I don't know the people who make Dragon Grip Grips from Adam, so I'm not getting anything by sharing about their product, to be sure. Still, I want to mention one more thing about the Dragon Grips. NONE of the Grip I strategically placed on the bottom of my laptop to prevent slipping and drops while moving it one handed after a Rotator Cuff surgery, has moved in the least- it's been 2 years and they are all as I placed them. Removal is easy and if you heat it a little (VERY little) with a hair dryer, removal is clean painless. Honestly this stuff is the best and good for a wide variety of uses. There are VERY FEW products I can drone on about, but I am ever thankful I found their product. I can still count to 10. 😁
