I estimate that the one being replaced has been in use for an average of about 5 hours per day for these four years and has finally given up the ghost. Perhaps Apple will repair it under their exchange scheme. The 160GB has always been put to good use but has never been filled. There are 27 full length films on it, used mainly during frequent flights to Europe, and about 30GB of music. Fabulous piece of kit. Best player out there. Additional information a couple of months after purchase:- The Apple store DO NOT repair/replace any items which have been out of production for six years or more. They do not state this on their website but give the impression that items will simply be "swapped out" rather than repaired but give no age limit. They offered me a 10% discount on a new iPod but this still made it more expensive than desertcart. Despite Apple's reluctance to keep to their repair scheme, I still think this is the best MP3 player about. The EU Volume Limit can be overcome as reported elsewhere in these reviews under "Settings" on the iPod itself. What are the benefits of each? Thanks** A: I got it for my wife's birthday. She isn't bothered about apps etc. She just wanted something to put her music collection onto. After almost three days, she had only managed to take up about an eighth of the memory. So, if you are just interested in the audio side of iTunes, I would go with the Classic. Comes in a sealed box with all guarantees inside Excellent product, this is the third one we have and I can't recommend it enough. **Q: I live in Europe, do I need an adapter if I buy this?** A: The iPod Classic is supplied with a USB cable and a set of headphones. The USB cable is used for both charging the iPod and for transferring data to the iPod from the PC. If you wish to charge the iPod from the mains then a charger which has the necessary pins for your European electrical socket must be purchased. Amazon.es (Spain) or Amazon.fr (France) will be able to sell you the necessary adaptor for your mains sockets. That is the only reason you would need an adaptor. If you are happy to charge the iPod from your PC then you will not need one although I would recommend having one for convenience.
