Haven't used it long enough to see if it works but as far as the "balm to serum", it's good. I use my fingers on the balm and apply that way instead of rubbing balm all over my face, a little goes a long way. Feels greasy at first but definitely absorbs in a short time and there is NO greasy or oily appearance from it. Edit to add that after a few weeks of use, it's fantastic.
