A simple rice pot that brings me joy
I wanted to replace my old rice cooker we had for many years with one that’s Pfas free, and donabe came to be one of the options. I also wanted something that is easy to cook and maintain. After researching many different ones, I decided to give this Hario a try. This rice cooker is very well made. The bowl is made of ceramic and has a good weight to it. It is easy to clean and looks very pretty, even my husband said so. There are two water lines in the pot, so I can eye ball the amount of water needed for the amount of the rice. I follow the instructions to rinse, and soak the rice prior to cooking. Let it cook till the pot let out a gentle whistle. Let it whistle for one minute then turn off the stove. Wait 15 minutes and the rice is done. The cooking process is easy. The rice turned out fluffy, with good texture, and very delicious. I am very happy with this purchase. Thanks Hario!

Speak Japanese for instructions
I was in Japan and visited a number of ports while in the US Navy during the early 60s, but never learned to speak Japanese. The instructions that came with the Hario GNR 200 BW were all in Japanese. All I need to know is how much uncooked rice to how much water, and I can take it from there. Even their website is all in Japanese. The Japanese need to understand that if they sell their product in the USA, they have to provide English language instructions. And I hope US companies selling in Japan know they need Japanese language instructions included. I have the measurement 'cup' from an older Japanese/Chinese rice cooker, and now that I know there are two water lines in the Hario, I can play around and probably get some decent rice.

Tried and true old school, but improved and updated.
Love my Zojirushi rice cooker - fuzzy logic and all the functions, but don't like that the pot has a nonstick coating. Getting away from plastics, disposables and nonstick stuff and replacing (slowly) with essentials that are better for my family as well as the environment. I chose this rice cooking donabe because of its design. I've never had to cook rice on the stove before. Grew up with electric rice cookers since the sixties. It's hella convenient, but I made the decision to transition away from disposable cookware. I liked that this one is ceramic (no seasoning necessary) has a glass cover and a whistling top to tell you when your rice is cooked. I'll probably graduate to an actual donabe rice pot in the future, but for now, I'm very happy with this one!

Better than electric rice cooker
When the liner container of my electric rice cooker had scratches, I started searching for a new rice cooker. I wanted IH rice cooker but they are so expensive. I found this Hario's "Gohan Game". I was curious. This is simple way to cook rice and they say it will be better than rice cooker. It's reasonable price and free shipping from Japan, so I decided to have this. I only use brown rice, that means it's little tricky. But after tried few times, I figured out how much water and how long to cook etc. Easy to clean. The rice doesn't get mushy.

This donabe rice pot cooks rice better than electric or induction cookers! And it's faster, too!
Donabe rice pots produces superior rice, better than microcomputer or induction cookers. It is a lot faster too! The cooked rice has a glossy look and the texture is better than other cookers. The only way to cook better rice is to use a double-lid donabe clay pot which can be triple the price of this pot. The advantages is that you can have rice ready in 14 minutes (but you still have to let the rice steam for 15 minutes after turning off the heat.) Like other cookers, you still need to presoak the rice for 30 minutes before cooking. Please note that Japanese rice is measured in "gō" which is equivalent to 0.75 American cups. This cooker can cook three gō of rice, or 2.25 American cups of rice. The amount of water would be the same amount as the rice. You can increase the water by about 5-10% to make it softer. The disadvantages are: 1. The pot is not non-stick 2. You must cook on a gas stove The advantages are: 1. It cooks faster 2. The glass lid lets you see the rice as it cooks While the instructions state to cook under high heat, this creates a mess on t he stove when the rice boils over. Reduce the heat to medium to eliminate this mess. It does not affect the end result. I have attached the instructions on how to use the pot. Unlike clay pots, this ceramic pot does not have to be pre-seasoned.

Delicious rice!
This will make the most delicious rice. I am asian and have tried. all various rice cookers from $20 to $300. Instant rice, over the fire rice, instapot rice, etc. This makes brown rice more palatable somehow. Highly recommend
