oil it
This is a replica of an edc knife meant for most all cutting tasks of daily life at about 900 AD. A nice solid tool. Might have issues if used as a stabbing tool. Sharp, traditional design, Thick enough and fits my hand. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

Helle Traditional Quality
A lovely traditional puukko knife with curly birch handle. Mine came sharp with a symmetrical grind. Keep in mind…..hand made knives very in their fit and finish, especially with a rough finished “Viking knife”. I got this mainly as a collector knife, but I have no doubt it would perform well in the field. I prefer to use my BPS and Mora knives for a daily work. Helle did a good job with the knife. I’m happy with the purchase. P.S. the leather sheath is a beautiful traditional design.

Helle "Viking" Knife
Item was received in excellent condition, on time (early actually). I am extremely happy with my purchase. Blade is laminated well, with smooth transitions along the length of the blade. It has held up well in the last 72 hours, in which I've put it through some stress. Blade shipped with a true razor quality sharpness from factory, not some silly hack-saw-through-paper finish. It will be difficult to reproduce this sharpness without some good attention to detail. Blade had a light layer of grease when shipped, and they advise to to keep it oiled or greased because of the mild steel laminates. Handle is an attractive curly birch, hard and smooth, but shaped well enough that you don't feel yourself slipping on it at all while using the knife. I would recommend this to a friend, but maybe a more 'experienced' user. There is no blade guard, which I could understand might be an issue for someone that is perhaps reckless or over excitable. Overall, very happy with the quality of the knife. True Scandinavian quality.

Hand crafted excellence
This knife will be worn as a neckknife using the provided sheath. I bought it primarily for field dressing deer and also as a patch knife for muzzleloader shooting. This knife is very sharp and I have no doubt it will cut. It fits my hand nicely and will be comfortable to use. The curly birch handle and simple design makes this knife a perfect choice for me.

A Fine Piece of Steel
When this knife became unavailable from the U.S. dealer I went to an alternate seller -- Seitz Kreuznach in Germany. The knife arrived by air from Germany five days after I placed the order, and the price was approximately the same as the original U.S. seller. It arrived nicely packaged in its sheath inside a cardboard tube. I had been hesitant about ordering a Helle Viking knife after reading a number of negative reviews but decided to take a chance. I like the feel and heft of the knife and must say it is absolutely the sharpest knife I have ever handled. This handmade Norwegian steel is really something! I think this knife will become a very useful everyday tool. Extremely pleased with my purchase.

Nice thick knife.
Bought this for a companion to my hatchet would definitely not jab anything even tho I can grip it well there is no finger guard. It's a knife for cutting not chopping down the rainforest. The blade is super thick looks like it can take some abuse. The sheath is nice too. Becareful when you pull this out first time its in there tight almost stabbed myself lol. Very nice knife happy with purchase. Fast ship.

A versatile and well made tool.
The fit and finish of this knife was good. It looks like the construction method and materials are historically accurate, however. This isn't a tool made by a robot using computers and lasers. The steel is, of course, more modern, but it looks like a historical tool. As you would expect, this knife performs a great number of tasks well, but is not a specialized tool. It is a tool for work and everyday life. The edge is good, the blade is strong, the handle is ergonomic enough for most tasks. There is a reason that more modern Scandinavian knife handles are contoured, though. I would feel more comfortable cutting through thick rope, for example, with my Helle Taiga, because the shape of the Taiga's handle will prevent my hand from sliding up on the blade when I am using a lot of force. And if I was going to be doing a lot of work, the Taiga would be less tiring for my hand and wrist. This is a working knife though, it just isn't as good of a working knife as the Taiga. The tradeoff is the historical connection vs. ergonomics. Both are part of a long tradition of versatile, high quality Scandinavian knives. My solution was to get one of each. I have large hands. Most Helle knives are too small for me. Helle is a little annoying about this, really, which is why I often rely on my Tops BoB when I know that I am going to be working in wet or demanding conditions. The Viking knife is just big enough that I can use it, but is better suited for small to medium sized hands. I wish Helle would make two sizes for their popular models. I would buy a Temagami in a heartbeat if they offered a larger-handled version. The blade could be the same size, I just want to have a safe grip on the knife. Keep some food grade mineral oil on hand for the wood and the blade, and it will last beyond your lifetime. Should you buy this knife? Yes, of course. It is a great historical connection, and will be a better working knife than you might expect.
