comfortably beefy, but not huge
The Bush Ranger Lite knife is a winner. Amazingly inexpensive – a super value when you compare what you’re paying to what you’re getting. The handle is ergonomically grip-friendly with rough sides yet comfortably contoured edges. The glass filled nylon scales are lightweight. The action is smooth, not loose, and not quite drop-shutty. Still… watch your fingers when closing the slightly heavy blade. You can readily use the thumbstuds to flick open the blade, albeit with just a small bit of wrist action. And hurray! The Rocker Lock system works well, without pain! It’s still a back-lock, so it’ll take two hands, but it’s not painfully stubborn like Cold Steel’s unnecessarily overbuilt overhyped Tri-Ad lock used in several other Cold Steel knives. The sliding secondary lock works appropriately (to lock the lock??), but I won’t ever use it. It’s about as needed as your appendix. The thumb ramp on the spine is well placed and comfortable. I wish they had made the effort to make a workable finger choil on the other side in the ricasso area. The space is there. They just didn’t choose to contour that area at the unsharpened base of the blade. Oddly, the knife is unexpectedly lightweight, for having such a beefy thick blade and lock mechanism. Thankfully it falls short of being ‘beastly’, retaining heavy-duty knife status but still carryable as an EDC. You won’t want to carry this in your khakis or dress pants, but it’ll work fine with jeans and work pants.

Built like a tank
When I saw this with a $30 price tag I just had to buy one. Its the budget version of the Cold Steel Bush Ranger that sells for upward of $100. The knife is very robust, looks like a sharpened pry bar, but weighs just 5 ounces, the blade is 3.5 inches long and 3.8mm thick. One of the best features for me is the strong reinforced tip that that should not break under normal use. The GRN handle is strong and comfortable with a sliding blade lock on the left side. This will double lock the blade in open or closed position. Unlike most Cold Steel knives this model has a conventional blade lock, not the Tri-Lock system. However I don't find this a handicap, the lock-up is solid with no blade play. The overall build quality is top rate, the blade is perfectly centered in the handle, no blade play when open and no rough edges. I love the ergonomics, it fits my hand just right and the blade stud is just right for fast reliable opening. The handle texture gives a firm hold without roughness, a reversible belt clip is also fitted. The low price is because the knife is manufactured in China and uses their 8cr14mov high carbon stainless steel. I have used this steel for 20 years, its very tough and capable of a razor edge, excellent for a working knife. The only down side is that I am sure some customers would have preferred the Tri-Lock, but for me not an issue. Best $30 I have spent in a long time.

Not a bad option for EDC.
Nice solid build. Good grip. A bit more bulky than most of my EDC knives but not a problem. No spring assist so it does take some effort to open and lock in place with the thumb stud. A little WD 40 helped. Sharpness of the blade was acceptable when it arrives but I would suggest putting in a little time and improving on it. My only gripe, and it's not the manufacturer's fault after all I knew what I was buying, is no liner lock. Every other EDC I have is a liner lock so I'm used to having one. Other than that the price and the quality is worthwhile.

Great value knife! Sharp, comfortable and safe
My boys are learning the value of independence and living in the woods, so of course they need a good knife. The problem with pocket knives are that they tend to go missing, so you really don’t want to gift a 12 yo a $300 pocket knife- but you can get a quality knife with this guy right here. It’s sharp out of the box (a safe knife is a sharp knife), there is a lock on the fold out blade, and there is the strong locking blade made to keep the knife blade open when you want it open (anyone ever had a blade on a cheap knife fall back on your fingers?!?). My son loves it, and I love it too. It’s a great size and an all around good blade for the things we are doing in our forest.

Awesome blade, perfect size for field dressing, large animals
Finally, a knife that has a lockable blade with some size to it. Exactly what I’m looking for in a field knife. Especially when I’m hunting and I need to dress something out well done five stars. In my book, you either get one star or get five stars. The rest of the stars in the middle are for people that are confused.

For me - the perfect EDC. Not for self defense though--imo
Super sharp, super sturdy - great weight and design. I love the safety on the side that locks the blade open and closed. I have a ton of cold steel products and thank the knife gods that they make this affordable version. Buying 2 more as backups. I couldn't be happier. This is my heavy duty knife. I carry a tanto spring assisted TEK edc for self defense. I can't open this knife fast so it's in my cargo pocket for heavy work. I love the safety and feel of the knife. It's so so good.

Blade is very nice. But it definitely has its downfalls
Blade millimeter and thickness is fantastic The edge is good tempering isn't bad on this blade I do have negative things to say about the handle the plastic is cheap The blade on this knife deserves so much better locking mechanism should have been designed differently The blade outweighs the handle which is not ideal. But again the blade holds an edge and is tempered pretty well blade retention on the tip is strong doesn't bend easy. But I'm short varies from knife to knife. I just would have designed to handle with a better material and a better locking mechanism

Cheap, wobbly blade
I have always heard how good Cold Steel knives are so I got this one to check them out. This is pure junk. Cheap steel, Teflon washer and the blade wobbles. If you tighten it up then the blade is very hard to open. I paid less for a Petrified Fish brand name knife and it came with roller bearings and D2 steel and is very tight and solid. I am very disappointed with this knife. Save your money and get something different.
