Gil Elvgren: All his glamourous American pin-ups

Gil Elvgren was the best of all the pin-up artists and also the most prolific and this book collects much of his work. The plates, nearly six hundred of them, are almost all in color and each one is of decent size. This book is the definitive volume on pin-up art to any collection, his art, a masterwork on the same level as any of the great painters. The fashions on his models may change throughout the forties, fifties and sixties, but their beauty (and cuteness) remain consistent. His fleshtones are truly amazing and the poses suggestive and fun. Elvgren's models weren't just gorgeous, they were friendly, inviting and playful. Just having this book lifts your mood, recalling an earlier time when life was a lot simpler.

I love this book because of the beautiful images. I'm an Artist and use the images as reference for designs, or inspiration for paintings. Yes it's possible to simply print out these images but I prefer to have them all together in a quality bound with the bio of the artwork. Looks attractive on my shelf at home.

Almost 250 of Elvgren's paintings are reproduced in this nicely-made book -- mostly pinups, but also some advertising pieces.Because so much of his work is lost or otherwise not in common circulation, a few of the reproductions here are smaller or from low-quality source materials but it's still nice to have them included. Most, though, are excellent. There are also some pencil studies, photos of the original models, and extensive biographical material.Elvgren's craftmanship was superb and his subjects playful and undeniably nice to look at, even if not exactly "politically-correct" by today's standards.An excellent compendium from a time when a glimpse of stocking-top was enough to get the pulse racing.

Classic pinup and cheesecake.

This is an amazing book, if you Draw, Paint, Tattoo or just love pin-up art you'll love this book. Im an artist and i draw and paint pin-ups and this book has everything you look for in photo reference. Poses, clothing, hair, faces, everything.. If you just like pin-up art you really enjoy this book for years to come..

This book was sooooo over priced. The cover is the only thing that was different from the $20 book offered. But my husband wanted it because it was a first edition .

Beautiful book - excellent printing - excellent coverage of Evgren's work

I bought this after buying a metal pin up sign and went looking for more information about the model and the artist. Digging around online I found that Gil Elvgren was the artist and picked up this book and found it gave a very detailed history Mr. Elvgren. I also like how it showcases all of his works from the early days up to his work in the early 70's; along with his work in advertising.

Der zur Zeit beste Band über den König der PinUp-Kunst. Wer diese Kunstform mag, kennt und mag (fast immer) auch Gil Elvgren. Schwerpunkt des Buches sind die Bilder des Malers, der Band enthält laut den Autoren schätzungweise 98% aller Elvgren-Werke. Überwiegend gute bis sehr gut Druckqualität und wunderschön zum Durchblättern und genießen.
