A helpful language reference tool for students, pastors, and scholars. The BHS Reader’s Edition is for those who have a basic understanding of Biblical Hebrew and desire to read and study the Hebrew Bible. With this book alone (and a year of Hebrew), students are able to read the Hebrew Bible in its entirety. Review: Beautiful and useful edition. - For quite a few years now, my Bible has been A Reader's Hebrew and Greek Bible , mainly because it has the convenience of having the Old and New Testaments in a single 'Readers' volume. However that edition does have some annoyances that have never left me: The 'graying-out' of all Proper Names in the Hebrew text; surely the worst and least legible Greek font of any NT; and the fact that the running vocabs for both OT & NT are crammed into a single indigestible block at the bottom of each page. For that reason, while this is still the Bible I take on Holiday or to Church, for my own comfortable reading I've been using (for the NT) UBS Greek New Testament: Reader's Edition with Textual Notes (Black) (Esv Bibles) , which did a superb job of correcting the faults of the Zondervan edition. Now, to my GREAT delight, I've discovered this - which does an equally great job of fixing the annoyances of the Zondervan Hebrew text and glosses. Instead of a single clump of glosses, the vocab at the bottom of each page iis clearly arranged for each verse, and easily located at a glance. It's a very large, substantial book. The soft leather cover is smooth and beautiful to the touch. The pages are thick enough to eliminate seeing the ghost image of the other side. Not cheap, but with some books, 'You only need one, so buy the best you can afford'. In this case, you WON'T regret it. Very highly recommended. It now has a permanent place on my study desk, alongside the Readers' UBS NT. Review: It is practical and it works - The conjugation key code is genius. It is bible, lexicon, glossary and grammar, all as one resource. It is easy to use and enables a flow of narration and transliteration at speed and efficiently, although there are some excellent grammars and Readers out there. If you are serious about reading and transliterating Biblical Hebrew whilst developing an understanding of the nuance of grammar, this book is an absolute Must Buy. It will save you hundreds of hours of labour.

Great quality in production and reading aids
This reader's bible is great; the quality is better than Zondervan's and the notes are accurate and helpful. However, the parsing system is idiosyncratic, so this may prove troublesome to the student just beginning to read Hebrew.

The Essential Edition of the Hebrew Bible
For students and scholars of the Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew, this book is essential for furthering one's personal knowledge and understanding. This is the revised Babylonian text of the Masoretes, considered to be the definitive and one of the more accurate collection of the OT Biblical texts, complete with accurate vowel pointing as well as various notes and study helps (Though you will need to know some Greek and Latin to be able fully utilize these). The text is rather easy to read with moderately sized font. As far as size and weight are considered, it is fairly light and comes in a small portable size. Now, here is the main catch: The binding appears to be very secure, but it is actually very prone to fall apart if not taken care of properly. Dropping it is not a good idea and if a person needs to carry it around in a back pack, make sure that it is placed securely so the spine will not be rendered crooked by other items in the bag(this will prove fatal for your BHS' cover if these measure are not properly taken). It is probably better to carry in a small book back or satchel than a back pack, as my Hebrew professor suggested to me (his fell apart). Aside from that last draw back, this edition of the Hebrew Bible is a must have for scholars and is an excellent resource for Hebraic studies.
