I recently needed to connect my relatively new computer to an old VGA 4:3 monitor for some retro game emulation, and this device did the trick perfectly. I ended up getting this when I needed to use an old monitor with a newer system that only had HDMI and DP outputs. I got hit by a storm and had an assortment of electronics get partially damaged in some ways. As a result, I was dragging out old items, that had been replaced over the years, to replace the damaged new items temporarily. Quickly ran into conflicts due to the video upgrades over the years. Using an older monitor with only VGA and DVI inputs with a modern PC graphics card with only HDMI and DP outputs was a problem. Searching for a cheap temporary fix, until I can slowly replace multiple damaged screens, I found this adapter. It let me use the old monitors, or in some cases TVs, with my newer PCs if various rooms. And it was fully functional in all respects, no special drivers or settings needed. Of course since VGA didn't carry sound I had to break out the old audio cables also. Even after I replace the monitors and no longer need this adapter, I'll be keeping it handy to use my old screens if the need arises again.

Works great.. First of all be sure you turn off PC then plug in HDMI and connect VGA monitor. Then turn on PC and will work.

If you have an inventory of older monitors for whatever, you know that there's usually only two connectors at best, VGA and DVI (some only VGA). Many times, I want to repurpose these workhorse monitors for static purposes like attaching them to security camera NVR's or test machines. Many times VGA is not an option for modern devices or computers, but HDMI is. This adapter works straight away to convert HDMI signal to VGA and is nice and compact (add your own cable). This also might be a solution to older KVM's when using a couple computers at a single workstation. This is a solidly built adapter for HDMI to VGA; just realize, there's no screw holes to keep things anchored to your VGA cable .

This adapter is nice and compact which makes it a perfect addition to my laptop bag for use when I'm in the field. Connectors seat firmly and the video quality is as expected for a VGA display. As noted by the seller it didn't work when attached to a machine in my KVM (I had to try it...) but other than that this is a nice adapter for a very reasonable price.
