Q: My hesitation to purchase this is the wood top. It would be great if it was removable and screwed on for aesthetics? So you can wash it better?

What is your concern? Getting in the wood wet? I have no trouble washing it. I guess you could always apply a finish to the wood. Yes the top is screwed on and you could remove it with a long Phillips screwdriver. Just wash it and don’t worry about it. The greater is the best I have ever had and I definitely recommend it. You do have to be careful of course, not to slip and grate your finger.

Q: A good greater should do more than just cheese. I would ask owners of both large and small how do they do with zesting citrus and grating nutmeg?

Good question. I haven't tried with anything but cheese but the grating surface looks exactly like what I use to grate nutmeg and citrus. And the top is easy to hold onto. It remains sturdy while grating.
