Pricey but Plenty to See and Read
This is an excellent book, if a bit pricey in hardback. I didn't see any print quality problems in my copy, so it's not a universal problem. Maybe just an early print-run problem. The book is packed with design artwork for story ideas, costume, props, vehicles, sets, and creatures. Describing Han's female counterpart as "love interest" is a bit jarring and demeaning in the present day, but there it is right on the page. There's precious little about other characters, such as Lando; the content is almost entirely about Han and Chewie. The text is tiny, so you might need reading glasses for some of it. It is informative though, revealing much about how the movie developed from the Star Wars history, new ideas, and some frankly whacky random stuff that fell by the wayside. I got the impression they didn't actually have much of a backstory for Han, and were inventing stuff that might be entertaining. There is little comparison between concepts and the final on-screen designs, so in that sense it is all a bit detached from the finished movie. Overall though, it's a fascinating book to leaf through as the artwork is of the usual high standard you expect from a Star Wars production. It's not bad value at retail price, but my Amazon Warehouse copy was at a much lower price and looked new.

Great design artwork, interesting filmaking information.
Another good Star Wars art book, showcasing the amazing concept artists and designers who's work sometimes appears onscreen and sometimes only appears in these books. The thought and ideas behind the locations and designs reveal the research and skill of the designers, taking simple motifs or design elements and extrapolating them into the Star Wars universe. You'll enjoy it if you like the effort put in in creating film concept artwork.

Another great tome
I have always loved the concept art books, and this was a welcome addition to my collection. Yes the movie and subject are perhaps on a smaller scale to what we are used to, and yes we are familiar with a lot of the elements of this particular time frame in the star wars universe. I still found this a great book, filled with the usual high quality images. I especially enjoyed the section on Dryden Vos, his yacht and the good old (well not good, tyrannically evil) galactic empire.

Art of Solo is like any other "Art of..StarWars" an amazing insight of how things emerged from some crazy imaginative guru's in the industry to an awesome movie which fits perfectly in the Star Wars universe. Love it. Daniel

Great
Looking at the production of โSoloโ from start to finish (without mentioning the directorial shift around once), this highlights the concept art and processes as led by James Clyne (he works for the ILM Art Department, as youโll be told several times) and Neil Lamont (whose dad, Peter Lamont, designed every Bond film from โFor Your Eyes Onlyโ to โGoldeneyeโ, the 90โs/00โs era James Cameron films, won an Oscar for โTitanicโ but is described as having a โstoriedโ career). Beautifully designed, as these Lucasfilm/Abrams books invariably are, this is full of gorgeous imagery (with little of the rough-shod CGI stuff that blighted the โLast Jediโ artbook) and itโs presented in order of production, with small chapter headings by Szostak giving us some behind the details information. Thereโs an interesting aesthetic choice, pushing the imagery back to the 60s (if โRogue Oneโ was the 70s and โNew Hopeโ era, this should be โTHX 1138โ/โ2001โ which works perfectly) and while the designers go back to the well that is the late, great Ralph McQuarrie, they also cherry pick designs from Colin Cantwell, which is interesting. A very good book except, as with all of these, itโs let down by Szostak, whoโs competent enough but has no real flair, likes the term โreaching outโ and often forgets to tailor some of the image descriptions to remove the bits where the interviewee is talking directly to him. Worth it for the artwork, just donโt pay too much attention to the words.

A perfect "what if" book! With some concepts even cooler than the movie.
My favorite thing about Art Of books has always been seeing the different options of what could have been put in the movie. The movie had three different directors at different times who ultimately individually changed the direction the movie took. The changes in director and a lot of the production items are not discussed in the book. But you do get a ton of concept art throughout! There isn't much text except for a page at the beginning of each chapter, and a brief description of the artwork. But the pictures speak for themselves and offer their own stories.Whether you liked the movie or not, there is so much to enjoy about the book. The pages and binding are the usual excellent quality expected from Abrams publishing. The pictures are clear, bright, and vibrant. With some double page spreads and really impressive images that are sometimes so much cooler than even the final product of the movie. If only because you can use your imagination to create your own stories from the pictures.

Immancabile
Come da tradizione gli Art of delle pellicole sono una gioia per gli occhi. Estremamente vario, evidenzia il percorso di creazione e le modifiche occorse al reparto visivo del secondo spinoff.

If you love SOLO's design aesthetics, you'll love this book!
Of all the Disney-era Star Wars movies, I love the look and design aesthetics of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY the most. From the costumes to the vehicles, new creatures to set design. So getting this book was a no-brainer and besides the original artwork, it was also fascinating to read how the creators behind every design put their heart and soul into something they were very proud to work on. A must-have for SOLO stans and a good addition to any Sar Wars book collection.
