DOGS in SPACE
I bought two. I highly recommend this. It is great to have up and running while doing observation sessions with other scopes. You can keep photo momentos from your gazing sessions. Not unlike the awkward pictures we get after riding roller coasters. Sans the funny face and subtle embarrassment. You will fully cherish the pictures of the sky. Great pics, easy to use, educational, clever - there are many laudatory things to say about this product. It makes astrophotography accessible to the neophyte. It makes astrophotography easy for the initiated who find themselves too tired to fuss with a traditional, labor-intensive rig. While I applaud Spartan discipline and salute those who open the heavens by mastering astrophotography, there is nothing wrong with occasionally taking the path of least resistance. We can't all climb Everest when we want to go outside. A stroll in the park has its place. That is what the S50 represents. You can create astounding images of astronomical objects with no specialized or technical knowledge. The app is intuitive and easy to use. The device obeys with monastic discipline. The only preexisting astronomy skill one need master to use this device is the ability to determine if it is dark outside and cloudy. I have struggled more to program a coffee maker than I have in using this astrograph. Like I said - a stroll in the park. Not to descend into the weeds on an Amazon review, but the device is also more versatile than appears at first glance. For example, it has a mosaic mode that allows imagery to be stitched together to form a larger image (lay this feature on the Orionic cloud or Andromeda galaxy and you shouldn't be disappointed). For further example, you can pull images directly from the device for bespoke stacking, and stack amongst multiple collects on multiple nights. These features make the scope more than the sum of its parts. This rings particularly true when considering limitations regarding the field of view and the alt/az mount. (If I have lost you at this point, do not fret - just know that this scope can do more than expected and has advanced features/tricks to keep things interesting). Writing of sum and parts, the value this device represents feels criminal. Cue Fiona Apple. Roughly five hundo for a triple apochromatic and all the auto imaging trimmings?! You cannot price a piecemeal rig with these specs for anywhere faintly near this price. This is a stellar value... that pun hurt me too. I can feel your eyes roll. But do not miss the point - This is an incredible value. If you are looking for the smart scope pièce de résistance, the Celestron Origin currently holds that title in my humble opinion (at the time of writing this. I expect this market to evolve quickly. Far future readers can snicker, but I am right in this moment.). The Origin is certainly worthy of consideration. I want one. That RASA is something else and it appears to be worth every penny of the 4k asking price. But if you are not so well heeled as to be able to dish out 4k for an astrograph, or so inclined for any number of reasons, this S50 is perfectly acceptable solution that will still allow you to make the mortgage at the end of the month. Even in acknowledging that the Origin is generally superior, I still think this scope has its place. It is highly portable and robust. It neatly occupies a happy intersection of compact form factor, ability, and price. If portability is your chief concern (for hiking?), consider the upcoming S30. In conclusion, this is a great product. Please consider. I recommend this wholeheartedly. This product deserves five stars (this is a pun-rich environment but I will spare you here). It certainly advances the hobby of amateur astronomy. All things stated above are mere opinion and consider at your own risk (don't sue me). PS: You can photoshop your friend's pets into astronomical photographs for extra fun. Bow to the absurd and all. I wish you clear skies.

Seastar S50 Smart Telescope by ZWO is Sweet!
I'm very pleased with the ZWO Seestar S50 astrophotography camera/telescope I purchased through Amazon September 2025. I also purchased the ZWO Tripod Head for Seestar Smart Telescopes. The telescope is easy to set up and use. The tripod head allows a user to convert the S50's built-in alt-azimuth mount to an equatorial mount to better match the rotation of the earth beneath the stars. The telescope/camera is incredibly sharp and produces brilliant images, which it saves by default to your smartphone. When you first open it up, it guides you through basic set-up routines to orient the camera to the world and sky. After shooting, I use the basic picture controls on my phone to edit the saved images and I save the originals to my desktop for further editing (I use Affinity photo-editing software which includes astro-photography editing routines). The camera is compact, lightweight and comes with a carrying case and charging cord. Battery life is about 6 hours, and it takes about four hours to charge a near-depleted (20%) battery. A few minor issues: - The camera needs the Seastar app to run. The app is not as intuitive as I would like, but I'm getting used to it. It's frustrating to have to learn to use the app in the dark. - The operating manual would be more useful if it included basic workflows for using Stargazing, Solar System and Scenery modes. None of these are deal-breakers, and I'm getting used to the app. I don't use the small tripod that comes with the S50. I use the adaptors that come with the ZWO Tripod Head to mount the tripod head and my S50 on my Gitzo professional field tripod to provide a solid, secure base for making lengthy exposures. I would buy the product again and have recommended it to my star-gazing friends. The picture is of the Eagle Nebula, home to the "Pillars of Creation" star nursery.

To Infinity and Beyond!!!
I absolutely love my Seestar! I was so happy to get my Seestar and start observing the heavens in my own backyard. This thing works great and with soooo many different possibilities. Solar imaging, Lunar imaging, Deep space imaging, and even land-based imaging. I could not wait to unlock the mysteries of the universe with Seestar that I had to get right into it. I jumped right in and got it up and going in no time. Seestar stepped me along the setup, and I was off imaging the moon, sun, stars, galaxies and the heavens above! Seestar makes it so easy! Like 1-2-3. The Seestar comes in a nice travel box and even comes with the tripod and attachable solar filter all fit nice and snug inside. Setup is simple. 1-2-3 simple. Download the APP and make sure it is level, and you are off and going. Connect to your phone or tablet and the universe is at your fingertips. Seestar makes astrophotography fun and easy. It really helps step you through the basics of imaging. What made this purchase even better was that the manufacturer now has their own Amazon store. It is nice to know that it is covered by the manufacturer if anything goes wrong, and they are the seller. It is the peace of mind knowing that I will not have any issues should a problem arise. What are you waiting for? Go unlock your own adventure with Seestar!

Best Xmas gift!
I got this smart telescope after looking at it on YouTube and other sites for several months. Moving from traditional telescope I'll say it is a game changer. I had to wait two weeks for the clouds to finally clear after I got it delivered. While waiting I did purchase an additional leveling mount for it, based on online suggestions. Get it too, it makes that part of a setup a breeze. For portability, the carrying case is a nice bonus. Easy to carry while protecting the scope. As far as using it, charge it fully, download app to your iPhone, iPad, or any android device. Follow the steps to connect and that's pretty much it. I live in suburban area so there is some light pollution. I set the unit outside on my front porch, turn it on, and told the app to go to Orion nebula. It took maybe two minutes total time to find, center, and start stacking images. The images added here are the original one and second one I adjusted some setting on my iPad picture settings. So yes, you can take some amazing pictures with this scope. One thing that very difficult, if not impossible, is taking photos of planets. It is not designed for that. Deep space objects, sun, and moon - absolutely amazing. Is it hard to use? From my experience of a noob - NO! Follow direction in the app and all goes smoothly and easily. I looked at this scope for months and finally decided to get it. So glad I did. Can't wait to take some more pictures. For a second I thought I better off with traditional telescope but then you sort of have to remember the views with it whereas with this you have actual pictures to look back at. At the moment, I am extremely happy with the purchase. I did look at some additional accessories, but there really aren't any that you'll need. Besides the mount I mentioned, everything else is included with the scope. If you plan to spend over 4 hours continuously, maybe get a battery bank. Scope fully charged is rated for 6 hours run time, 4 with anti-fog heater. It does continue to operate while charging. Any longevity problem I will report back. For now absolute 5 star!

Astrophotography done painlessly
This little thing is absolutely amazing. It's about 5 pounds including the tripod, so great as a carry on our just to put outside for a while. And what could be nicer on a cold winter evening than the scope being outside while I'm toasty warm inside getting absolutely magnificent shots. It comes in a pretty sturdy case which holds the Seestar itself as well as the tripod and a few small accessories. It comes with a sun filter, Batonov mask and lens cap. The built in LP filter is very handy as is the on board dew heater. Set up is quick and easy, even for a newbie. This brings great astrophotography to the masses.

Fantastic Telescope!
I own 11 telescopes, a variety of astro cameras and Ive been astro-imaging for about 40 years. I pulled the trigger on the S50 half out of curiosity, but also because I thought it might be a great 'toy' telescope to play with. It never occurred to me that ZWO, the maker of most of my serious astronomy cameras could make a great all-in-one imaging telescope for less than $600. All I can say is 'Wow!' This thing is absolutely fantastic. From the time I removed it from the box until the time I was imaging M31 (Andromeda Galaxy) directly overhead was approximately 20 minutes and that includes 5 minutes of software updates. It connected effortlessly with my WIFI network and my Galaxy Tab. You may be tempted to watch YouTube videos about how to get the telescope up and running but many of the steps described in those videos (like manually walking the telescope around in a circle to calibrate) may be either no longer required or unnecessary as my scope automatically performed the task after powering on for the first time. I have included my first image with the Seestar S50, which took approximately 6 minutes - hardly enough time for the Cessna-sized mosquitos in my backyard to find and begin ravaging me. Will this replace my serious imaging rigs? No way. There is a reason they cost thousands of dollars. But if you've been curious about astro imaging and would love a compact, inexpensive scope that ANYONE can set up and begin using in less than a half-hour, the S50 is absolutely terrific. ZWO really knocked it out of the ballpark with this telescope. I've never had a ZWO product fail or disappointment me and the Seestar S50 is no exception. I can't recommend it enough!

The seestar S50 is worth every penny!
This is an amazing piece of equipment for deep sky photography! Just keep in mind that to get the end result like the pictures I've attached, you do need to do some editing after the fact. Nothing too involved, and a lot of people will tell you to get an expensive editing software made for this, but all I've done with these pictures is edit them thru my Google photos app, adjusting things like lighting, color, contrast and sharpness, and this is the end result. Just experiment with different settings till it looks good. Pretty easy, free if you're editing thru your album app, and beautiful results! Also definitely worth grabbing the TH10 EQ mount by ZWO as well. Slightly more of a learning curve but greatly helps with quality and won't drop as many frames for better end results.

Great and easy to use
This arrived quickly with good instruction it also included a sun filter which the pictures on Amazon do not show. The nebulas shown were all taken a few days after it arrived, we have clear skies here but it was misty at times. One feature that is not always shown is the built in dew heater, this is important to me as we do have some very humid nights around here. Its also very easy to carry around and set-up at night.

Deep sky images made easy
I’ve only used this a couple of times so far. As you would expect from a small aperture telescope it is not good for planets. However, it is good for the sun and the moon and absolutely AMAZING for nebulas, star clusters galaxies etc.! The app is easy to use. The size is small enough to take camping. For its cost and size, the resulting images of deep sky objects are stunning. Also, delivery was fast and the telescope arrived in perfect condition.
