Very fast at heating up a bucket of water.
ProsVERY FAST AT HEATING UP! Be sure to watch it if you are heating up a container made of plastic.I used the immersion water heater in a 5-gallon bucket in combination with an electric portable shower….LOVE the idea that I might be able to take a 105-degree hot shower in the woods off the beaten path.Great to use to heat up a kid plastic pool or similar keep your little ones warmer and a great way to extend water fun in the higher and colder latitudes.ConsThe temperature gauge does not have a switch to turn on or off. Once you take out the plastic protector on the batteries keep it running continuously until the batteries die. I tried to take out one battery to save the battery life and it broke when working with it. It would be great if they added a switch so that you can turn it on and off as you need it.

Works as advertised!
I needed a solution to keep a large bucket of water hot while working outdoors, and this device has done a great job with this task so far.The overall idea is simple: a heating element encased in a stainless tube with a built-in thermostat that will cut power when the water reaches about 145 degrees F. There's no on/off button, so you simply plug it in and drop it in the water. The unit heats consistently, and - whereas I don't think it'd be sufficient for a small hot tub - it works great on smaller volumes of water (5-10 gallons), and heats up cold water from the hose to a warm bath in a few minutes. The construction is very satisfactory, and the wiring looks to be well-executed and sealed. The sticker that reads "Don't tough water when using" is a bit unnerving, though I understand why this is a safety hazard (electricity, water, etc.) The unit includes a digital thermometer to test water temperature so as to not scald your hands.Altogether, this is a handy device that performs quite well! If you need a remote source of hot water, this could be your solution.

If you have a lot of time to spare for warm water.
Our toddler pool is in the shade and thought this would be perfect. Plugged it in and was afraid of it burning a hole in the pool (plastic blow up) so I draped the cable over a life jacket and that worked perfectly. If your looking for hot water fast this isn't for you. Not sure if mine was faulty I followed all the directions and used a direct outlet. After 4 hours I didn't get a temperature change. It does pull a good amount of energy. I attached a screenshot of my solar usage while on. No ac or anything going on so house pulls about 0.5kw so the rest is all the immersion heater. Turned off, waited then on to double check and it's the same amount of energy. I cautiously put my hand on the wand and didn't feel much heat. I took the sleeve off and could see super tiny bubbles on the wand. So it does heat up. I ended up just pulling out the garden hose out in the sun and spray every 15 minutes into the pool. That brought up the temp several degrees in no time. Checked the temperature with another thermostat since the one that came with it didn't work.

Seems to work great, however it is slow
Pros:+Quickly warms up water if it is in small quantities; a few minutes to push room temp water to over 100+If this is really 304SS than it should be built well enough against corrosionCons:-Takes a lot longer to warm water up like in an outdoor portable pool since it just sits in the water (doesnt cycle the water around)-Scary sticker that warns you to not touch the water if it is on-thermometer included seems like an afterthought and I cant get it to turn offI am not sure if I recommend it as it does what it is intended to do. However, I think it more or less depends on what your reason for the purchase will be, thus only one star taken off and it is up to you to decide if this works for you.-

Broke after one use.
I plugged it in to use it a second time and it wasn't working. I thought maybe it was a outlet issue. so I tried another outlet and still nothing. Also, I don't see a way to shut the digital thermometer. I had to remove a battery to shut it off.

Great heater but not designed to boil water
The Immersion Water Heater, 1500W Pool Heater with Star Design Stainless Steel Cover does deliver on what it says. This is designed to heat water and not boil it. Heat it, it does. This has a really good quality, thick cord running to it. It should if it's pulling around 1500 watts. The heating element is not exposed but inside metal tube pierced with stars. It not take long to heat up a two-gallon bucket of water. It makes a sound much like a kettle approaching a boil.It does say to keep it immersed in water while in use. Supposedly, it does have an auto cut off at around 167f. This is good for being in a place where you need hot water and have access to AC. As far as heating a pool, I suppose it could do that but that's a lot of water and electricity. The sun is free.It does come with a little digital thermometer that actually works. It's more of an after thought. It's obviously not waterproof and from the markings on the side, it looks like it was made to fit into some type of panel. It does run on button batteries and will probably work until you get it wet. A digital pool thermometer probably would work better. But, this is good enough and better than nothing. On the whole, I'm very pleased with this little heater and it's been a big help when I needed hot water in a hurry with no other way to obtain it. I think it was very reasonably priced, easy to use and as long as it's not plugged in out of water, it should last for several years. It does state you shouldn't put two of these things on the same outlet. I think this is a bit confusing. I think they mean don't use two of these on the same circuit. These do pull around 14 amps and two of them would overload most regular circuits. This pulls as much power as a space heater but it has to heat the water.
