They have been used by butchers and food dealers as food packaging from ancient times in Japan. They are made by the work of highly skilled craftsmen who have mastered & continue this tradition which dates back to the Edo period.

Each note pad is custom crafted by hand, resulting in unique production outcome for each pad. Today we consider it to be one of the greatest novelties in its genre.
