A sexy and comprehensive survey of gay male comics
I love this book, I found it to be fairly comprehensive in terms of including European, American,Canadian, and Japanese gay male comics throughout modern history. I like that there was a broader range of comics included because if the book had only been about American work I would have been very disappointed. It is a colorful book, there are nicely laid out excerpts from each comic. There is sweet, romantic comics and darker, edgy comics featured throughout the book. If you're a fan of gay male comics or if you're interested in this genre and want to know more this book is definitely worth it.

Hot Comic Book
Great comic book one of the characters looks like me and when I saw the character naked I couldn't get over how much he looked like me. Great stories!

Too much in foreign language
Comic strips in German and even Japanese reduce the attractiveness of this book. Most are in color. Articles about individual cartoonists and topics are in English and German. There is an index of artists with websites. Worthwhile purchase at the price.

No Translation Provided!
Lovely book. Well laid out and printed. Cover art says: "A Story of Gay Comics, English and Deutsch." It is, in fact "A Story..." NOT "The History...". Not intended to be a scholarly treatise in any way, shape, or form. Rather it is a collection of representative cartoons illustrating a certain range of popular, successful material. All that is well and good. My problem with this book is mainly that a great deal of this book is interesting, sometimes painfully so considering that, no matter how interesting it may be, the reader needs to be multilingual in order to actually read and understand the content. English, Norwegian, German and Japanese is a rather eclectic combination for anyone, including very few Americans, to be endowed with. Translations into the majorities language(s) seems necessary to alleviate the frustration this reader feels seeing beautifly drawn and reproduced artwork which is, for the most part, totally esoteric and therefore, incomprehensible. If translations involve an increased price, then so be it! If I can spend $40 for a book, I can afford to increase the price to $45 or $50 to regain half of the book! Frustrating. Very! Seems like a true sellers review would mention rather than conceal the important fact that a large percentage of the book is incomprehensible to all but the most erudite readers.

STRIPPED AND REVEALING THEIR FINE LINES
Thirteen cartoonists are profiled in this big book on the history of gay comics. It's a great sampling of the work of some of the most famous artists from various parts of the globe with extensive examples of their work represented in this handsome presentation. There's glimpses of the ground breaking art of Tom of Finland, the uncompromising erotica of The Hun to the more realistic and simply sweet renditions of the works of Mioki (including the cover art) and Tom Bouden and the amusing and socially alert Howard Cruse. Others include the wild exploits of Patrick Fillion's heavily endowed creations, Theo van den Boogaard"s "Tin Tin" type drawings and Zack's beautifully sketched adventures of Bike Boy. There are many others represented here as well and this book provides an excellent introduction to some of the less familiar artists. The only downside to this book is that you may already have some of this work, especially from the list mentioned above, as they have appeared in many other Bruno Gmunder publications.

I discovered several brilliant creators I'd never come across before
I've been reading comics since I was 7 and I've been reading gay comics since I came out as a teenager. I thought I'd heard about every artist out there. Bit in Stripped, I discovered several brilliant creators I'd never come across before. I was excited to find out about these guys and have the chance to sample their work. Stripped isn't a survey of every artist who's created gay comics. Instead, the author has chosen a handful of bright talents and gives in depth information about each of them, along with several pages of stunning and sexy artwork. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to see sequel.

Empfehlenswertes Buch !!

useful reference book
This book works well with the 'straight no lines' book, This book concentrates on European gay comics, an intro into Japanese gay comics and a short intro into the realm of gay porn comics which is also surprisingly useful. The 'straight no lines' picks up the American angle which is largely spurned from the social and political counter culture and alternative movements. The style of writing / or the English translation is a little basic or too un-intellectual for my tastes and is oddly out of place in such a big hard back publication as this but still, the author has usefully catalogued and made reference to a whole gamut of gay cartoonists from his geographical focus. For those who enjoy exploring the gay comic both these books together work as a good reference launch pad to sourcing further publications by cartoonists whose work you respond to.

interessant
