I view the Burlington Preston as the slightly cheaper ‘workhorse’ version of the Burlington Edinburgh. Both have similar patterns, but are made of different materials. The Preston has no hint of wool or cotton – it’s entirely petrochemicals. To me, the Preston socks feel at first as if they’ve been knitted from string – there’s an unexpected roughness. However, this soon disappears and the socks are very comfortable indeed. They are also extremely hard-wearing – I bought my first pairs three years ago and they’re still going strong, with no bald patches, loose threads or signs of wear. Most importantly of all, these socks are wondrously ‘easy stretch’ – they slip over large, wide feet with ease, they stay up all day long, they don’t leave ridge marks on your legs AND they wash happily at 40C and still stay supple and stretchy. To be honest, when it comes to sheer comfort, I have to admit that I much prefer the Burlington Edinburgh sock (75% Merino wool) but, for a workaday sock that will stand up to regular gardening, looks good anywhere, and washes easily and without fuss, the Burlington Preston is hard to beat.

I used to wear these back in the day (80s/90s) when I was a homeboy. Only these, they were the creme de la creme of socks, with baggy pants tucked into them and the button showing between my Chippies and Air Jordan IVs, these were the dog's danglies. That button, that's the important part, it's what distinguishes these from the many other types of argyle sock out there. Only the Burlington's have that button, and it means quality.Fast forward to now, they're still the same comfy socks, they still look cool, but they no longer have my pants tucked into them but are worn above Air Max 90s.Rather expensive for socks, but worth it.

This is the second lot of these socks that I have purchsed recently and I'm delighted with them. I have large feet and suffer from cold feet! At last I have found comfortable socks. which are soft and warm. They wash well; keep their shape; do not shrink; and they stay up too!! I shall be buying some more soon.
