Rare Bresciani Long Mid-Calf 100% Linen Sized Socks Made in Italy Review: Five Stars - my son loved these Review: Shipping is costly & socks shrink a lot, but linen hasn't pilled much in 1-year - ***1-YR UPDATE*** I've used these linen socks about two dozen times since buying them--only in the summer. Unlike cheaper "100% linen" socks I've bought (dozens), these linen socks don't pill so they still look presentable. My big regret, however, is that they've lost a good THIRD of their original length. I wash these on gentle cycle with similar colored linen and line dry--never machine dry. Originally, they came up to the middle of my calves as advertised. This is critical to me because I live in a region with horrible biting midges so need tall socks in the summer. Today (June 16th) was the first day I took these out of their winter cedar storage to start wearing this summer. And I was shocked to find they now come up well below my calves. We have tons of linen--from napkins to sheets to towels. We know how to wash linen to preserve it. So we're very disappointed that these socks have turned into standard-height (below the calf) socks after just a few washes in cold water followed by line-drying (no direct sunlight). I'd never have paid $50 (with shipping) for a standard-height pair of linen socks. 2-stars for being, apparently, true linen (not linen mix) and for being pilling-resistant. Minus 3-stars for not being pre-shrunk when it's the sock-length that brings so many of us to this product's page in the first place. Back to searching for a pair of calf-height 100% linen socks. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** This summer, I bought 3-dozen linen socks from different international sellers. These are the only ones I bought here in the States. All the other pairs are already breaking down--studded with lint or fabric unraveling. But these socks, washed the same way as all the others, have no lint stuck to them and are holding up great so far. I'll be watching them closely over the next few months before deciding whether to buy more, though. The shipping is, at least to me, way too expensive for a simple, super-light pair of socks. I'd much rather the company offer these socks in a cheap paper bag for much lower shipping cost--or offer bulk shipping. I'd have already bought at least another pair if it weren't for the shipping fee. But the fabric of the socks is what I expect of linen. I think the budget linen I got from overseas is a mix with a high percent of synthetics... If these socks hold up well over 6-months, I'll buy more and increase my star-rating from 4- to 5-stars. And if they last a year with minimal wear, I'll replace all my summer socks with this brand.
