I assume that is to grab and pull towards you when getting it out of wherever it is stored but maybe it is more useful than that and I just am not aware of how to use it properly. From how they are built and put together and the 4 years of the older bag I got- I expect this may end up being used for a minimum of 6 years until the boys get to High School and likely will opt for a bag branded with their school.... even so, we will have two solid bags to use for other things after that.
