Not as sturdy as I thought.
I have been buying this dish set a little at a time due to the price point. I loved them at first sight. However, the dishes are not what I expected. They do not hold up in the microwave. I've lost many dinner plates and salad plates to them breaking in half. All of the plates, bowls and mugs that I purchased arrived safely and in one piece but I've had to purchase additional plates to maintain a service of 8. I've had cheaper dishes that held up better than these. I'm very disappointed.

Don’t plan on them arriving in one piece
These bowls arrived smashed to pieces. Don’t know who did it - don’t care - but the shipping dept needs a good taking to. On the bright side, the hundreds of bits that did arrive were lovely.

Smaller than I expected, but very pretty and well made!
When I opened the packaged, I heard porcelain on porcelain and was sure they would be broken. They are in a relatively small box and tightly packed. But I was pleasantly surprised that there was no breakage or chipping, and knowing the state of the shipping industry - in this case, USPS - I am pretty sure that they were put to the test on the way here! So, right off the bat I'm going to say these are some sturdy mugs. The color of these was far more brown and less blue that I feel like they look in the pictures here on Amazon. So if you are looking for a blue or blue/gray, these mugs are more brown. But they look very much like artisan mugs. They don't look mass-manufactured at all. That means that you have a less than perfect circle or cylinder, it pinches in a little and is more like a dented-circle if you are looking down on them from above. That's a good thing though, as it does make them look hand made or crafted, rather than looking like they were stamped out at a factory somewhere. The handles are very comfortable and easy to hold. They are thin, but stick out a lot so that makes it easy to grab. The only complaint I have is that they are smaller than I imagined. They aren't going to hold a giant VENTI cup of coffee or whatever you choose to sip from them, but they are perfectly fine for most uses. I wouldn't imagine drinking a hearty ale from them though, as they seem a little small or dainty for that kind of drink. In summary, they are well made, strong and very attractive. Just a little on the smaller side - so make sure you aren't expecting giant mugs. These are more like small or medium sized mugs.

Nice to look at, but the handles are a bit fragile.
The GoodThese are definitely microwaveable. I put the mug with coffee into the microwave for a minute and when I took it out the mug was actually barely warm. So much so that I thought my coffee might need more heating. Naturally I stuck my finger in it to see...bad mistake. Let's just say the coffee was much, much hotter than the mug, and the handle was still cool to the touch. The mugs are also very pretty. If you are looking for a stylish, delicate looking piece that will stand up to normal wear fairly well, these are for you.The BadSeveral issues with this product. First: I was supposed to get the twilight color, I got mist. These were grey with black dots, no green or blue in them at all. While each cup had an individual sticker on it saying it was twilight, the box said it was mist. The box was right. Whoever attached the stickers did it wrong. Second: When I first picked up the box I heard a tinkling sound; never a good thing when handling a box of dishes. Upon opening, I found one handle completely broken. This could be a manufacturing packing issue since they seemed to be in the manufacturer's box which was then set in an Amazon box. The Manufacturer's box needs more padding between the cups, or at least tape the movable box sections separating the handles from other mugs. Just tilting the box a little allowed the handles to hit against other mugs. The fact that Amazon did not put a fragile label on the outside box did not factor into this rating, and a label probably wouldn't have helped anyway. And finally, the third issue is the handles. These mugs are described as restaurant quality, for heavy use. These handles are far too thin to last long with heavy use. They will break quickly with any type of incidental contact with other dishes, whether in a dishwasher or at the table. The thinness also makes holding them a bit awkward; the mug tends to wobble in your hand. One more thing I don't like is that they are made in China. This did not impact the rating; but still, to me, a negative.

Handles Too Small
I don't like these mugs for a few reasons. First the handle is too small. I am a woman who wears a medium size glove to give you an idea of my hand size (not big) and I can only fit three fingers in the mug handle instead of four. The handle is very thin and is thinner and different than any mug I have ever used or purchased in my lifetime. This is not a standard sizing or fit that Americans are used to.As a person who makes ceramics and who owns a business creating my own artistsan products I can appreciate an artisan product such as this so small variations do not bother me.I ordered a dark blue colored mug but what arrived was a gray with deep brown speckles and the inside of the mug is also dark brown. I do like the slight variations due to the glazing of the ceramics with sometimes a triple dipped glaze visible and the dripping down effect as sometimes is seen on the handle or the mug is interesting looking damn fine with me. These are handmade mugs made in China. The other problem is that the set of six mugs arrives in a box with just a thin piece of cardboard in between each mug. There is not enough packaging to cushion the mugs from damage so three of my six mugs arrived with the handle is broken off. The area on the mug where the handle attaches is quite small compared to what is typical in handmade ceramic mugs. We can attachment areas mean it is easy to break the handle off. It is clear that these mugs are of poor design and were not properly quality control tested before being released onto the market.Rated 2 stars = Don't like it.
