We just received this item and love it! Originally we received ours and it was missing the magnet on one of the fishing poles. However customer support swiftly replied to my review and sent a replacement set and we couldn't be more happy. I love the container it comes in, the poles are constructed in two pieces, so you screw on the wooden handle at the bottom, and they do wind up and down well. There were not any instructions/ or a guide of ways to play which was slightly disappointing, but it wasn't difficult to make our own rules. I really love this game and so does my 4 year old son and 22 month old. It is great for letter regognition and naming animals as well as helping with coordination when it comes to winding up and down the poles and trying to “catch” the sea animals. It also will eventually be good for math and adding the points on the back together. Overall this would make a great gift for any child! I’d say it is best for 3 and up, though my daughter likes to try to do it too.

I've only had the game for a couple weeks, but the quality of the wooden pieces, magnets and fishing rods is nice. NO DIRECTIONS, nor an inventory of what should come with it. I had to reference back to the item on Amazon to see if it came with all the right pieces. I thought some type of dice or a score sheet would be included.With out directions or different ideas/versions of how to play the game, it's pretty simple and boring for me as an adult. However, it may be my lack of imagination. You just pick up the pieces and whoever has the most pieces or pieces that add up to the most points wins.My 3 year old, likes to pick the pieces up, but doesn't quite understand the idea of reeling the line in and out. So she ends up holding the "hook" directly and attaches it to the magnet on the fish. Also, because there's no way to release the fish, she just shakes the pole until they fly off (not my preferred way) or she will grab them off.Because the lines are so short, in a way it seems silly to unreel the line that's 4 inches long, hook the fish, reel it in, then use your fingers to detach it. That said, my child enjoys it ok at this point. She is learning the dexterity of reeling. Maybe when she's older and we can keep score, it will be a little more fun for both of us.

Just received this yesterday. It’s very cute and I love the tube it comes in for easy storage. The only thing that I dislike is that there is only a magnet on one side of the pieces- so if you turn them over where it has the name and a number you aren’t able to pick it up with the fishing pole. I got this for my 2 and 4 year olds and I would like to work on numbers by saying, “find the one with a ‘5’ on it” but that isn’t possible due to only one magnet being placed on one side of each piece. I’ve uploaded pictures to illustrate what I mean. This is just my personal preference. Other than that- it’s a great item.

Pros: made of wood and has many a variety of different sea animals. Great for reinforcing the alphabet. Fishing rods are cute. Cons: Some of the letters are hard to read due to the font. The rods do not fit in the container once assembled which is annoying for storage. The rods do not keep line taught once reeled in. This being said I would buy it again because my LO loves this game.

Creative fishing game that can be played in many ways to improve counting by 5, 10, and 15, alphabetizing, naming and learning ocean creatures, and using descriptive details to describe ocean creatures.

From the time my son saw this item, he loved it. What I like about this item is that, not only it is a fishing game, it has alphabet on the top part of it with picture of the ocean creature AND they have the name of the creature at the back of each item so you would know what type of ocean creature it is. FUN for learning and play. Great product! I would definitely buy this again for a gift for someone in the future.

Our 2-year-old really enjoyed the game, even though she didn't really know how to play. She just liked catching the fish and carrying the rod around, and she learned how to operate the reel, which was good for her motor control. And she is not easily pleased!
