Browning 1302546 Belt Tension Checker, Steel

I got this primarily for tensioning the belt on my wood chipper. It has worked great for this, and based on my experience using it, I believe it should work well in most circumstances, as long as you have adequate access to position it correctly.

Good design an well built

Overall this product appears to do exactly as it was intended for. I will say that because the numbers aren’t etched into the side of the tool and instead have a sticker showing them, if you intend to use this tensioner regularly, you will be disappointed when the sticker falls off. For someone who needs this tool for regular use, spend the money and find one with etched numbers.

For years I always wondered if the belts were too tight or too loose. This takes the guesswork out of it. It gets you relatively close to what the tension should be with the configuration you have. Highly recommended.

Unit functions as expected. I used it to set the belt tension on my new Quimby air compressor. Measures less accurately on belts requiring lower tension due to scale resolution but will get you in the ball park. Non-painted (sticker) markings may be an issue with heavier use. For my home mechanic application worked. IMHO it's about $30 too expensive for an inexpensively made product. Obviously, they have my money for what I thought would have been a higher quality tool I associated with a trusted name-Browning. That was disappointing. Sign of the times I guess. Average product.

WORKS VERY WELL AND PERFORMS AS EXPECTED. IF YOU USE ONE YOU KNOW HOW IMPORTANT EASE OF USE AND SIMPLICITY IS. MADE IN THE USA IS A PLUS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE GATES TENSION CHECKER THOUGH DUE TO THEIR POOR ASSEMBLY, O-RINGS MISSING AND MADE IN CHINA WORKMANSHIP (OR LACK THERE OF).
