My World of Lost Singles
A great hard to find collection Pop Psych, Late Mersey Beat and Sunshine Pop on 45rpm singles labels such as Mercury, A&M, Cadet, Liberty, Jubilee, RCA and Columbia. This is a companion to the CD, Take a Mind Excursion, I highly recommend both volumes for late 60s record collectors.

Great single cd collection of new - to me - sixties crackers
I come to these albums from the following angle. I'm looking for music that I like for the musics sake, rather than a particular version of a song by some obscure artist. I listen to the cd hoping that there will be some songs that I like, simple as that. Here we have 32 tracks from people i've never heard of, under the umbrella of sunshine pop from between 1966-1972 - a period in music that I love, and i'll admit, I have certain hopes or expectations, lush harmonies, interesting instrumentation, upbeat lyrics, and of course, good tunes. This is one of the best albums i've found with all the above. Of course with 32 tracks, not all will be great, but for me there are a lot more hits than misses. In a world with rubbish being released as pop music, to have 32 songs, that i've never heard before from the late 60s early 70s, which have that periods feel to them is just brilliant. There are some tracks where I get the feeling i've heard that, or something very similar before. Track 28 by The Seagulls has a definate Beatles vibe to me. If you go to youtube and find The Yellow Brick Road track 'She's My Girl', it reminds me of 'He's So Fine' by The Chiffons (the CD version is better quality audio than the youtube videos in my opinion). It's finding compilations like this that make me wish I were a DJ, so I could share these great tunes with like minded people. There is the warning on the cover about the age and quality of the source material and to make the allowances for that, but to my ears, this is one of the better transferred compilations. There's a nice illustrated booklet, which I haven't read yet.I don't think they could cram any more music on a standard CD (79 mins 25 secs), so if you don't recognise any of the artists and are wanting some 'new' late 60's/early 70's music, i'd be very surprised if this doesn't fit the bill. As you can probably guess, I love it.

Truly outstanding sunshine/soft pop comp
If you are looking for testosterone, you won't find it here. There is nothing rock, psych or beat here. At all. This is soft pop in its purest form; the perfect soundtrack for a cocktail party in L.A. around '68, crowded with second rate television actors, wanna-be starlets and pop producers. But, leaving this aside, I have to say that this is one of the best comps ever made about this musical sub-genre.Songwriting in most tracks is superb, with complex and elaborated melodies. Obviously, production and arrangements are extraordinary, as most tracks were recorded in state-of-the-art studios by top engineers and the best session musicians. A few songs included here could perfectly be amongst the best studio pop tracks ever recorded; you can find more melodic lines in songs like "Jessica" by Bob Dileo than in many full albums. But, again, be prepared for a heavy dose of saccharine taken while you are travelling in an office building elevator.Just one drawback (one star less for this): due to the rarity of some recordings, this comp is not taken from the original master tapes. A lot of tracks are taken from vinyl sources and 2nd (or 3rd) generation tapes. Sound quality is not bad at all -no clicks or imperfection from vinyl sources- but it lacks on clarity and dynamics. In other words, it does not sound as an Ace or Sundazed CD; it sounds a bit flat and compressed, and it hurts a bit taking into account the orchestrations and production values of many of these songs . Anyway, music is perfectly enjoyable and you will be able to fully appreciate the huge amount of talent included here. But if this had been taken from the masters, it would be five stars (not 4 and a half).

Beste Compilation of late Sixties Pop Psych und Soft Pop Singles , seit Jahren !
