Not made for 20+ year old openers
This "universal" door opener did not work on my 20 year old Overhead garage door. I contacted Overhead Door and they admitted the could not help me because my door opener was so old. Can I help it if they make a good garage door opener that lasts over 20 years?

It works well but only if you're 5ft close to open the garage door...not strong enough...The original was much stronger I could stay as far away as 15ft and open the garage door without having to wait while it goes up ....

Directions for programming aren't that clear so I had to wing it. I didn't see this in the directions but remove the paper tab under the battery or the remote won't work despite being programmed correctly.

Worthless junk x2!!
It works when it wants to. It will randomly just quit working. taking the battery out and putting it back in temporarily fixes it, but after replacing with a new battery it still sucks. So I guess I should have just lit some money on fire instead of buying this trash. Value for money is less than one star because it fails to work, therefore is worthless. Easy to program for me though, so that was good I guess.*update*I took the risk and purchased another one exactly like this from another retailer in hopes I would get one from a possibly different manufacturing batch. (I don’t know if that worked, but it was my theory) the second one I bought turned out to be exactly the same junk that the first one was. It worked only when taking the battery out and putting it back in. Very disappointed. It’s my fault I donated too much of my own money to this company especially the second time. Lesson learned. I bought a cheap chinesey sounding brand opener from a competing online store and now it’s being used, and it works great. (but with limited distance) but I’m glad in the end I have a working remote. Amazon should remove this product in my opinion.

Works well, when it works.
The range is short...it won't open the garage door until I'm in my driveway, whereas the original opener worked from 100ft down the street. And it seems to consume batteries at an astounding rate. I've only been using it about a year and have already gone through 4 batteries. The original opener worked for 10 years on a single battery....what could cause that?I gave it three stars because it does what it's supposed to do, it opens the garage door. But I find the range and battery consumption rate disappointing.Update 1/24/2015. I've lowered the review from 3 starts to 1. After approximately 12 months this opener started acting flaky, only working about 1/4 of the time when I pressed the button. Then, 18 months in, it quit working entirely. I've replace the batteries 4 times in the last 6 months to no avail. There's really not much that should go wrong with a garage door opener that spends its life clipped to the visor of the car. They should last 5 years or more. For this one to stop working ater 18 months is ridiculous.

Super easy
I was very surprised at how easy it was to program this item. I am very intimidated by sets of instructions with smaller print and lots of diagrams, so it took me a while to even get up the courage to read the instructions. However once I did I programmed the remote in under five minutes

Worked for my old Overhead Door Model 456
This may be the only remote available that works for my Overhead Door Model 456 (original version) openers. I was all over the Internet looking for a solution and this is all I found. Fortunately, I had the old broken remotes, so knew the 9 dip codes to use. Sadly, since I had to use the 9 dip option, I can only use one of the buttons. The range is terrible - I have to be within a car length from the garage door. These are way more expensive than what I thought I'd have to pay for a remote, but at least I have remotes now.

Battery consumption is ridiculous, fails in cold weather
This remote has been very disappointing. It drains the battery far too quickly, and last week it failed completely (it was only 18 months old). I take the remote with me when I walk my dog to go in and out of the garage instead of the front door. This winter, the metal piece inside it that holds the battery to the contacts separated in cold weather (the soldering failed--apparently it cannot handle temps below 20 degrees Farenheit). I tried to reattach the piece with super glue, but the remot appears to be dead. Now I get to spend another $35 on a new one. Ridiculous!
