This little box is the best $300 bucks you can spend if you enjoy streaming music and you already have a receiver/amp that your happy with. The Wiim ultra was simple to set up with the Wiim app. The software is excellent and streaming Amazon HD music is a breeze. One of my favorite things is the bass management this device provides. My Cambridge receiver has a sub input but no control over the cross over or DB output, the wiim ultra provides that. You have inputs for your TV, phono input and USB. I also own a Dennon network player that was almost unusable due to HEOS glitches that would buffer or lock up during play back. After 2 weeks of enjoying the Wiim there has been 0 issues, it just works. Now the important part, the sound quality is excellent, buttery smooth and crystal clear to the ears, good separation and sound stage and is fully adjustable with the built in EQ and sub woofer management, all from your chair with your favorite electronic device. I could go on, but if your on the fence just get one, you will not be disappointed!

A review of an audio device should come with some context of the writer, what they listen to, and what their other gear is: My uses are for multiple kinds of music from classic rock, to some classical, to some electronic dance, and even some outlaw country. My system includes a clean Onkyo amplifier, older JBL 10” 3-way speakers, and I am bypassing the WiiM DAC by passing the SPDIF data into a Denafrips Ares 2 DAC. That said, my review is probably not audiophile-grade, but audiophile-ish. My perception of sound quality in this review is compared to that of a Marantz CD6007 CD player and my perception of sound quality. The most important thing about the WiiM Ultra for me was the ability to bypass the built-in DAC so I could maximize sound quality to my ears by passing through my own DAC. Great news: It does that, beautifully. And it’s amazing. By using my own DAC, I can only barely tell the difference between a CD and even Spotify. That could set a clear line in the sand about my hearing, but I’m baffled at how close to CD quality the WiiM with my Denafrips DAC can get. It’s gets so close, it’s no longer distracting how different the sound is between streaming and CD. Now, I acknowledge that the DAC is a specialized piece of gear, but it has allowed me to homogenize the tonality of sound between CD and streaming. The WiiM connects via SPDIF, allowing for connection to any DAC you like, which was the use case that led me to finally buy a dedicated streamer. The versatility to do this pushes this into the zone where it’s an interesting to those interested in maximizing and curating a tailor-fit sound quality. The WiiM Ultra hits the mark here. It’s also beautifully easy to use. I can operate my streams from my phone, carry it around the house. Love that. It’s great. It may also be valuable to know that the screen is super fun, because I can finally just walk by and see what’s playing - and so can anyone else in the house. So nice to not have this all hidden only in one person’s phone. The design of the device is also super beautiful. Sits next to my Marantz CD player and fits right in. That’s phenomenal at this price point. So, here’s the thing - I’m probably a “practical audiophile” - I love music, I’m a little picky about sound quality, but I don’t have tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear, but I do have a sizeable investment in equipment to get as good of sound as I can. I’ve been skeptical about streaming because of sound quality (and the need for perpetual subscriptions). And the WiiM Ultra is the first dedicated streaming device I’ve ever chosen to give a chance — because of the ability to use my own DAC. It hits all the right marks given my use case: Super easy to use, beautiful design, the ability to attach my own DAC, and there aren’t any gimmicks … it’s great. Even on Spotify, with my DAC, it’s so close to CD quality, I’m no longer distracted by the fact that the stream sound quality has such different sound signature than CD. In my use case, this is a perfect solution, and it’s clear that I’m WiiM’s perfect customer. I’m sold, and I would recommend this to anyone who wants great flexibility to expand in the future, but have something beautifully functional in the meantime that likely needs no upgrades at all to still be phenomenal. Five stars on providing an affordable device that finally hits in the zone of the venerable CD for music lovers.

This streamer is a steal. Works great, sounds much better than the existing Sonos product it’s replacing, easy set up, and the software is great. The seamless operation and integration is consistent across every WiiM product we’ve tried and is simple enough for everyone in the house to use. If you’re in the market for a music streamer, get one of these.

This Streamer is awesome . I started with a fosi bt30d pro added a fosi mono amp and douk q11 dac . I have 3 way magnat signature series bookshelv and a center channel a 12 inch sub and a 8 inch sub all from Magnat signature series .I added the wiim and wow it opened up the sound stage and just gives that yummy authoritative drive takes quite the treble hiss and has every connection possible . It is a master peice . I dont use phono so not sure how that sounds but everything else is prestine . I ordered the smsl not thinking I would need it but it did make a big difference even though I was happy with just the wiim .You too will be happy with just the Wiim buy if you want that extra boost and clarity grab a smsl po pro 100 its 70 dollars and easy to add in between the wiim and dac . Remember to switch to usb out on the wiim if your using the smsl reclocker. It sounds like I have a Cadillac with a system parked in my living room . This system bangs .I plan on getting a better 3 channel amp but I really dont need to right now . The fosis are amazing aswell. I Love this wiim . It ties everything together and now I can use my wireless headphones I can blutooth out to a klipsh the three I can change volume and everything from my phone app . So you can be outside and change everything eq modes inputs turn subs off and on add 15 do to the sub you name it you got it at your fingertips . Im very happy with my purchase ☺️ you dont need to spend $1000 on a streamer this is all you need at $330.00 .my put together system sounds just as good as a 10,000 system and the wiim is built 💪 great and looks exspensive and has all the bells and whistles .If your not tech savvy it will take some time to learn your wiim functions . Once you get it dialed in though your gonna be happy . I was very happy 😊

So I decided to take the plunge and buy the WiiM Ultra on a whim when it went on sale ! I had already recently purchased two of their satellite wireless speakers with the round digital displays and enjoyed them so much I decided I wanted to stick with native gear to work on the expansion into my current Marantz HiFi system with 2 Polk bookshelves, 2 Orb Audio, and 1 powered Polk subwoofer. I also have 2 rear wireless Denon's. I knew it was going to be a challenge mixing old gear, different brands and new tech all at once. Since the WiiM Ultra has actually been on the market for some time, I'll keep this review short and might update it later as I'm still working out some kinks in my home setup. Thus far I've been using the Ultra for about a week and the WiiM speakers for about three weeks. I'll start with NEGATIVES and CONS on the Ultra - Setup Scenario: I mostly play my music from raw files (MP3, FLAC, AIF, WAV ... etc) off my local drive on a Macbook Pro. I often use Apple Music for simple playlist or Ableton Live for more complex setups and detailed listening. I actually don't care about streaming from websites even though I know that's how it's promoted and marketed. As a retired DJ/Musician I mostly just buy and play music from my personal library or maybe stream off Bandcamp from my purchase history library. CONS — - NO NATIVE AIRPLAY !! This has to be one of the WORST features and decision of this unit by far. Why? Too steep of licensing fees? Probably. I know there are work arounds, but the point is to not have to do that. I'm not necessarily pro-Apple, but Airplay just runs solid, it's fast, clear, and reliable unlike Bluetooth or other casting linkage. Guess I'm stuck with buying another expansion WiiM (Mini, Pro) product or workaround the long way. - Having to use BLUETOOTH for streaming wireless connectivity !! Again, one of the WORST methods of e transfer and streaming on the market. Constant drops, even if you're right next to it with a clear signal path, and forget trying to multi-task, plus the compression !! Why the industry has adopted Bluetooth as a primary source for audio is beyond me?! It's just inferior, has been for years, still is. It's the whole reason I didn't buy the newer wireless Harmon and Kardon speakers, although I do own some Denon's which are Airplay. Yes, I also took a chance on WiiM speakers as they also DO NOT have Airplay native, but sound and look cool with that fancy little display. - Adding WiiM Ultra disables volume control from Apple Music or from my Macbook master headphone volume, which it used to work when I just had the the two WiiM speakers. The sliders are still there but they do nothing. You can adjust volume inside of videos and from the phone app (which is hassle to now always have to rely on having my phone around when listening to music) + WiiM speaker remote, but not from the WiiM Ultra remote. So many darn remotes ! PROS — - RTA EQ display. Yeah, I'm simple that way. Growing up in the 80s and 90s RTAs used to be normal and integrated into all gear. Good to see them making a come back, in my books they never went out of style. Hopefully WiiM will keep up with it and allow for further customization and options down the road. - Fairly easy to setup and integrate with my Marantz AV amp, I already had the app installed on my phone. I used both the stereo RCA and optical out of the WiiM hardwire into the Marantz. I did have to reset the Marantz as it wouldn't see the new inputs. The optical input sounds vastly better than the RCAs and with a slightly hotter signal. No noticeable latency sync and playing all at once: 2 wireless WiiM speakers + Marantz: 2 Polk bookshelf, 2 Orb Audio, 1 Polk Sub. Only downside is I have to use the Marantz volume control independently from the WiiM volume control. - Sound Quality. When Bluetooth isn't being headache everything sounds stellar and completely surround. Before I purchased the Ultra the two speakers sounded great on their own, even fairly boomy without a sub. But adding 4 more speakers plus the sub = Out of this world !! All in all it sounds amazing when it's up and running. The whole point is to be more wireless and to get as close to lossless or hi fidelity as possible. I don't want to have to plug hardwire into the ultra, but it seems I might have to if I want to skip having to rely on Bluetooth, which is just AWFUL with how glitchy it is even being a few feet away from the source !! Otherwise I may go to Google Casting, adding a WiiM Mini or Pro, or buying an Apple device, sending audio there and then hardwiring that device into one of the available input ports on the WiiM Ultra. I don't see myself returning the Ultra and getting something else to replace it, at least not for right away. Hmmm. We'll see, Common WiiM, y'all can do better !?!

Exceeded my expectations ! Wow even the packaging looks good, so good I decided to keep the box ! Now for the Review: This unit is more solidly built than it looks in the pictures. I said to myself for $329 it probably will be made from cheap plastic, but NO, this thing is solidly built and slightly heavy. Everything looks high quality including the buttons and cables. The front LCD is bright, sharp and detailed. Nothing cheap here. As far as the sound, I was a little underwhelmed at first, thinking "oh well what do you expect for a unit costing only $329"... That's before I used the 'Automatic Room Correction feature'. It took about 5 minutes or less to set up this feature. After that, it was like night and da between the before and after. I thought this was just a gimmick, but it works great and is one of the reasons I purchased the WiiM rather than other brands in the first place. I also messed around with the EQ a little bit and BANG! almost perfect room filling sound. My living room/listening room is kind of weird in that I have a recliner chair and a 3 level shelf/drawer sitting about 5 feet directly infront of my speakers that are against a wall. Not the best set-up for Hi-fi. However, with these adjustment I can hardly tell if they(recliner, shelf) are there. Hooking up to my Wi-fi was fairly easy. I usually have problems trying to connect gear to my wi-fi network, but not this time. Everything went surprisingly smooth. I downloaded the App to my phone, and was able to immediately connect to my Amazon Prime music. Of course I wish this unit had Apple Air, but for now, I'm OK just listening to Amazon music. Prior to owning this unit I had to get off the couch, choose which CD, Cassette, or Vinyl record I wanted to play, or listen to the music saved on my iPod classic. It was getting pretty repetitive!! Same old music all the time... With this streamer I can listen to never-heard, or brand-new cuts sometimes all day long without having to get off the couch ! This is a dream come true for a potato-couch like me !! Again, the sound, it is excellent to my ears. I doesn't always beat my SACD, or some of my Vinyl cuts, but it gets pretty close, and fits right in to the system. In my opinion it does sound a little better than my iPod and noticeably better than my cassette deck. This Streamer is everything everybody else said about it, so I highly recomend it. Especially for those who do not have deep pockets...

I love the WiiM. I strive to be helpful. This review explains my use case (yours may be very different, but somewhere out there someone is looking for this set up), then ease of use, and, finally, quality of output. The disclaimer is I do not claim to be an audiophile; I'm just a guy who likes to have music on. Here is the preface. I needed a system for a little place we have so we can look in on my elderly father, and we might eventually move him into this condo. At home, I am running a Sonos Amp with Magenpan speakers and a Hsu subwoofer. But 2500 miles away, we have kept things simple. Here is what I am trying to do. I failed initially. I thought I would use Sonos Roam units, but I could not, unless I settled for mono. We have internet at home of course. We have a 100% legitimate means to access wifi at the condo as well: the subscription we bought includes a national network of hotspots. Since we are only at the unit intermittently, it would have be inordinately expensive to sign up for another ISP. The catch, then, with Sonos or anything running over a wifi network is you cannot rely on a shared network to make it work, even if your source is on the same network. The Sonos has bluetooth connectivity, but it won't pair units, so it cannot generate stereo sound. In addition, however, I have old, first generational Harman Kardon Soundsticks. They use old school USB cables. I like their sound. They were just gathering dust. Enter WiiM. It allowed me to stream music to the Soundsticks. That is a great strength of this design. It has every input and every output I can think of. The legacy ports extend the lifespan of devices. I had to fiddle a bit to get it working. I did not become frustrated. Within ten minutes of unboxing, we were up and running. My wife is the primary user. She puts on what she wants to hear on her iPhone. It might be possible to do something more directly from the WiiM control panel, but I am satisfied. As to the sound, I like the vintage equipment. It is good not too loud. Anything sounds good if the volume is turned up. But it has as much clarity and detail as I can discern, quiet — the space is not big, and we strive to be decent neighbors. I read about the codec. This is lossy. It suffices. I doubt anyone who is looking for the best in sound reproduction is streaming to begin with. I would opine, without expertise, the home setup is superior enough you would notice in a side by side blind test. But for the weekends we are listening to the WiiM, we have no complaints. You trade convenience for quality. Finally, I’d say from the look and feel of the machine, it is a quality piece of kit. I expect to get several years of service.

This is a great streamer. At first I was having issues with connecting to it after an update. I contacted support and asked them to help and of course I thought right after that maybe I should unplug the device and reboot it. That worked for me so there was nothing wrong its just for some reason after the update it failed to grab its old IP address. I have 3 of these devices from WiiM and love them. I use Plex, Amazon Music, and Tidal with it and it is great. The only feature I with they would add to the mobile application is Lyric sync. There is no lyric option in the app, you can always stream it to the WiiM from another player and have that feature but then you can't control the volume as easily. As far as specs, I really enjoy having a full 2Vrms to my amps, the subwoofer feature is great on the device. The power and sound quality to my amp is much better than my Onkyo that this replaced. I use this model on my computers desktop and love the size forum factor. Music is clear and the sound clarity amazing, I am using the same 240Watt mono blocks that I used with my Onkyo along with the same subwoofer. I am running MK speakers and I noticed a big difference. My speakers have way more dynamic range as well as my subwoofer hits harder than before. Use the remote control is easy, not a lot of buttons, I am really close to the unit but it does work well when needed. I installed this on a tagged vLAN and it worked well so installation is pretty straight forward. There is no delay in the speed of switching services and song changes, I feel it is faster than my desktop that I use for music That has a Ryzen 8 core 16 thread CPU & 32GBs RAM and 2 NVMe's running Windows 11 Pro. Love this device and Will buy a forth unit if I set up another listening location.

Have been looking for music streamer for quite a while and finally decided to give Wiim Ultra a try and boyyyyyyy this small box is freakin awesome! Paired with Klipsch The Fives and Earthquake Minime P63 subwoofer, I have never thought my speakers could sounded this good 👍

I bought this WiiM Ultra Streamer to act as a digital jukebox for my Yamaha rn600a receiver, CD S303 and B&W 606 S3 based system. The presentation of this WiiM streamer is impeccable and it comes with the necessary leads etc. to get going. Because the device is so popular there are so many support forums out there both official and unofficial. The build quality seems excellent with a wide variety of inputs and outputs, I use the optical output. The touchsceen is very good both in terms of clarity and sensitivity, it's so nice to see the album art. I've partnered my WiiiM Ultra with a 512GB Samsung Bar Plus USB stick - I chose this because of it's very low power drain and the fact that it's metal means it dissipates heat -the combination works flawlessly and I've added about 500 Cds so far. The WiiM app gives you plenty of control and is well designed, I like the fact you don't have to log in. Sound output is really authentic and you can opt for flat output or customise the sound via a built EQ - personally, I prefer to shape the sound with my Yamaha amp. Overall, this is a star product which for most users will deliver everything they could want at affordable price, whilst offering good quality sound. The only downside I can think of is the lack of support for Apple Airplay, if you can live without the latter this is a very (very) good buy build quality, usability and output are top notch at the price.

Amazing box of sonic delights. Well designed, easy to use and set up thanks to the highly intuitive Wiim App. Everything works as it should. If using a VPN disable it when setting up access to any NAS on a home network .The Phono stage is surprisingly good and works very well with my Rega P1 turntable. . Sound is detailed and persuasive. Streaming with Tidal Connect is a breeze and the Hi Res recordings sound terrific. Amazing value for money and a piece of equipment to please budget concious Hi Fi nerds .Highly recommended
