Mybe the best player in this price range
I own the Sony UBP-X800M2. I've had it for a few years. For me it is more trouble than it's worth. To be honest I am always adjusting this or that. Well, two days ago decided to go off the beaten path and would not do the things I wanted it to. Mainly, play movies or connect to my WiFi. I have an extensive DVD collection. I am not giving it up until The Second Coming. I do not care for Sony products. Even so, I think they make the best budget DVD players for the price. I thought about getting it repaired which I still may and keep it as a back up. I began an earnest search on the internet for any affordable player that comes with all the bells and whistles my current unit has. What appears to be available are borderline junk or one needs a mortgage just to buy. I searched Amazon because comparison and Rufus is right at my fingertips. I came across the Sony UBP-X700. I tossed it in my cart because it's cheaper than my current player, with only subtle differences. I ordered it yesterday afternoon, and it was at my door at 7:00 AM. Cannot beat that for service. The UBP-X800M2 is supposed to be a higher-end model compared to the UBP-X700. I don't think it is. For me, the picture alone is noticeably crisper and more vibrant than the X800. The X800 is roughly 10" by 17" and weighs around 8.38 lbs. The X700 is 12.6" by 8.5" and weighs around 3 lbs. Weight and size are noticeably different. When you get to the meat and potatoes of the matter they are almost identical players. Both players have the same video resolution of 2160.. They support multiple file types. Dolby Vision and Atmos. Both are 4K Ultra HD. Both have Dolby Digital DTS. Both are easy to use. I may have missed something. But, I've done the research for you and I think the Sony UBP-X700 is a great value for the casual movie hobbyist. It has the sound, the high quality picture we all want with all the bells and whistles. Most of all the price won't beat us up. I can comfortably recommend this item. I still can't believe how fast Amazon got it to my door.

COMPATABILITY ISSUES
I DISLIKE THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO MARRY TO MY LG OLED TV WHEN IT COMES TO PLAY DVD'S. THE TWO DON'T WANT TO WORK TOGETHER WHICH CAN BE VERY FRUSTRATING . THAT SAID WHEN IT FINALLY DOES WORK THE PICTURE AND SOUND QUALITY IS AMAZING

A decent CD, BD, and SACD player
I primarily bought this player to have it as a dedicated audio player with the capability of playing BDs when needed. And while it does that just fine, I was hoping for more quality audio output. The UPB-X700 has only HDMI outputs, one of which is a dedicated audio output, which is one of the main reasons I paid extra for this particular model. However, I was quite disappointed when I compared it to my existing 14 years old Denon DN-C200 Professional CD changer, which I use mainly as a CD transport unit through a coaxial connection. There is no doubt in my mind that the Denon just sounds better when playing standard Redbook audio CDs. As for SACD performance, I compared it to my old PS3 and did not feel that the UPB-X700's dedicated audio HDMI output offered any audible difference in terms of signal quality over my PS3's standard HDMI output. Furthermore, this unit does not like scratched discs at all! It skips like crazy when you have heavily scratched CDs playing, compared to my Denon player from yesteryear, which manages to correct the errors and give you a smoother listening experience. The unit itself is very plasticky and feels very hollow and cheap, but the design, which I find elegant, compensates somewhat for the cheap feel of the unit. Another downside is that this has a separate DC adapter, which I am not a fan of and I feel adds some clutter to an otherwise neat presentation. Otherwise, this is a decent enough player, it's honestly just fine. However, I would opt for the cheaper model that has no dedicated HDMI audio output as this doesn't offer much in terms of quality, and if you have it hooked to an AVR with your TV on, it decides to switch to video HDMI mode and tells you that you have the HDMI cable connected to the wrong output... Painful... One last thing, if you're buying this unit from an international seller, just ensure to take a moment and look at the voltage to make sure it is compatible with your region.
