Great book to give you an understanding of your keyboard.
I bought this around the same time as I bought 'Improvising Blues Piano' by Tim Richards and find that I'm using them interchangeably. They're both quite similar in that they take you through the most well used chords (Major, Minor, 7'th etc) and give you patterns, styles and progressions. Each chapter takes a chord family and builds up styles etc around it, so each chapter gets harder as you work through it and then resets at the start of the next chapter (rather than getting progressively harder throughout the book). In reality I think I prefer the other book slightly, but they're both very good at teaching you how to understand the keyboard and how to apply it. The playalongs in both books are very good and don't fall into the usual pitfall of being too cheesy.
