Misleading Information.
The author says that banks use customer deposits to issue loans to customers... what?? Going by the five star reviews, shows you why most people don't understand how the monetary system works. Henry ford famously said “It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning”.

The concepts held therein are fundamental for all consumers livinf in a capitalistic world. A great read that clearly and succinctly covers all the basic topics of economics. Layout and format make it easy to read through and understand the material within. Worth every penny!

Economics 101 is compact, clearly written, offered at a reasonable price and contains much valuable stuff about supply and demand, banking, monetary policy, interest rates and much more but also about the history of economic topics. The author made clear, how the economy and the world actually works and explained typically obtuse economic topics in an understandable way. I recommend it to every student especially to the ones that have trouble in college or university to understand economic principles and to those who want to know how the economy/world works.

I was an Econ major (many years ago in college). My daughter is about to take her first Econ class and wanted me to recommend a good book to read before her class to get a basic understanding of key concepts, in plain English, for the non-economist. After searching on Amazon, we bought this book for her. It was a great choice. I read it, and think it does a fantastic job of covering a lot of concepts, but doing so very simply, in plain English, with real world, simple examples. I used to tutor Economics when I was in college, I found that using these real world examples made all the difference when trying to explain and simplify complex concepts in Econ.

This book is a lay person's guide to basic economics. It's a popular text, not an academic text, so don't expect a thorough grounding in economic theory. It is laid ot as a series of articles of two to three pages on a variety of fundamental concepts, like "How do Banks Create Money?" The text is clearly-written common sense, with no math or accounting background required, and a minimum of economic modeling. I do have a background in Economics, so I use the book as a reference when I need to explain an economic concept to non-economic folks. Recommended.
