Review: Excellent. Good value - This is excellent. Easy to setup, great interface. It just works. I use it as a Nas when I’m home, and travel router when I travel. Update, this thing keeps restarting every 10-15 minutes. It’s frustrating now.
Review: Impressive little device - Impressed so far. The TP-Link was easy to set up and configure using the Tether app. I connected my iPhone via the USB cable supplied and now have fast WiFi in my camper van. The iPhone tethering seems to time out after a period of inactivity but this is the iPhone and carrier, nothing to do with the TP-Link. Logging into the configuration page on the router there are many advanced options and some optional extra services one can subscribe to. I haven't tested the ethernet but have no reason to think that it would not be fast. One slightly curious thing is that the logs show various activity in December 2025 - which is possibly when the device was first configured at the factory. Finally, when I read the description on desertcart there was mention of the "SLATE" which is the model name of another company's router, which looks very similar. TP-Link assured me that this device is NOT the same machine re-badged, and other reviews do suggest that the firmware is TP-LINK's and not open source like the other company. If it had a SIM card slot and 5G capability it would be perfect

**Q: Does it need to connect to a plug socket or is it free standing.?**
A: It does not have a built-in battery. It is powered by a USB connection from an external power supply.

**Q: How does it work with a data simm card?**
A: No, it's is connected to an existing internet supply by means of ethernet or wifi. Can either be used as a client, range extender or access point. You need a dongle or modem/router to take a sim card.

**Q: So would this work when camping? Where there isnt a wifi connection or in the woods for example?**
A: It would not work without a wifi signal

**Q: so does this have to be connected to a third party or can i use this without reliance on anyone or any provider?**
A: No third party needed - it is a wireless router, supporting multiple providers - works well for my astrophotography as the mini computer I use didn't have a strong enough wifi to connect to my main router in the house - the portable router connects them perfectly.

Impressed so far. The TP-Link was easy to set up and configure using the Tether app. I connected my iPhone via the USB cable supplied and now have fast WiFi in my camper van. Does the job what ours supposed to but connecting is not easy. It takes multiple attempts and a reset everything when connecting to a different network.
