Original Album Classics

One of the other reviewers has suggested that there are not many of his popular songs on these CDs. That may be true, but the albums as a whole were more important than the singles. Denver had a few number ones in the US but, apart from Annie's Song (a #1 hit in the UK and very ironic, considering the bitter divorce they went through a few years later), he was, for me, an albums man.This set is incredible value - about £2:50 per album; where else do you get such value as from Sony. I know he recorded for RCA, but Sony Legacy seem to be able to do this "job lot" brillianty. I have a similar set of Walker Brothers albums released when they reformed in the 70's (No Regrets / Lines / Nite Flights).Anyway, back to John who delivers here wonderful music, soaring vocals and strings behind his guitar strumming and excellent band playing. He wrote a lot about environmental issues, as well as love songs. He also was an excellent interpreter of others' material and there are a number of covers of John Prine songs.One of my all-time favourite songs is "Rocky Mountain Suite (Cold Nights In Canada)" from the lovely "Farewell Andromeda" album. However, to be fair, if you had these albums before and, like me, bought this and re-established your connection with John Denver, you would realise just how good these albums are. They stand the test of time and make you realise just how great John Denver was.

Standard good quality John Denver discs. Not many of his most popular songs. However like all Denver, song makes good listening. Would recommend but don't expect many of his classics
