We plan to use it for shade or rain in the day and then are going to stake down the outer corners poles and make our truck bed/topper into an awesome tent. The middle that is under the most strain was ripped prior to setup, I am pretty sure it was shipped that way. The poles seem good quality. It was easy to setup. Since the van is larger than a SUV or a car, The awning needs to cover a larger area than for a small vehicle. An awning for a RV is usually around one thousand US dollars. It requires a roof rack to install and adds more weight to the vehicle. This awning is not even one hundred dollars and covers very large area. Since it is very large, I purchased magnets and suction cups to attach the awning to the van. I also used stronger ropes to tie the pole down to the ground. It did not move at all under strong wind.
