What is horticultural pumice and how is it used in gardening?

Horticultural pumice is a crushed volcanic rock used in gardening to enhance soil aeration, drainage, and moisture retention. It's mixed with soil or applied as a top layer to prevent root rot and promote healthy plant growth.

What are the benefits of using pumice in soil?

Pumice improves soil by enhancing drainage, aeration, and moisture retention. It's porous, allows air circulation, retains water well, and lasts long without breaking down.

Is pumice suitable for all types of plants?

Pumice is versatile, suitable for many plants including succulents, orchids, and bonsai. It's ideal for plants needing well-drained soil and the mixing ratio can be adjusted as needed.

How does pumice affect soil pH?

Pumice is pH neutral and does not alter soil pH levels, making it a stable and safe choice for most plants.

How do I incorporate pumice into my soil mix?

To incorporate pumice, mix 50% pumice with potting soil for succulents and cacti, or 20-30% for other plants to enhance drainage and aeration. It can also be used as a top dressing to prevent soil compaction.
