Darn Tough Merino Wool Boot Sock Full Cushion

Excellent walking socks
These socks are really good, although they are quite expensive. They are supposedly guaranteed not to get holes in, we shall see, but good to date.

SUBLIME COMFORT
My first biggest bugbear when it comes to socks are ridged seams that sit over your toes which are uncomfortable and cause blisters. Secondly, it's the socks that cling to your feet and are wet with sweat when you take your boots or shoes off.I'm on my feet all day at work, I can cover miles and I also like to go hiking so a sock that can put up with that kind of use is number one on my Christmas list. I took a chance with Darn Tough though initially I was put off by what I considered was the high purchase cost. How much better could they be to the Lorpen midweight socks I was using. The Lorpen socks are fully synthetic and while they are comfortable they still got quite damp. They also failed after a month of heavy use as my toe burrowed right through. This was disappointing but they are priced less than these Darn Tough socks. They also tended to start smelling sweaty very quickly and hardened with a couple of days of hiking around the Lake District. The difference these socks make is amazing. First off, I wear leather/leather lined hiking boots and steer clear of synthetics and Gortex. They allow my feet to breath and are still waterproof when treated with wax. These socks have made a huge difference. They fit perfectly, they have no seams, they do not have tight spots or leave a mark around the calf and they stay in place. My feet feel so much drier than before, probably down to the high percentage of merino wool. The socks don't smell or harden after a few days use. If you do get a bit of water in your boots they are great at wicking moisture away. They are a relevation to my feet. So much so, I bought another two pairs. They are guaranteed for life, but I'm going to do my best to try and wear them out......

Great quality as expected from Darn Tough
I've several pairs of these socks now. I wouldn't buy anything else for hiking / walking. A very comfortable, moisture wicking 3 season sock. They're expensive but I can barely tell the difference between socks that have been worn for hundreds of kilometres & ones washed once.

Absurdly overpriced, too small and not very good
Stupidly I bought 2 different pairs of Darn Tough socks based on the excellent reviews on Amazon.Probably I should have returned them as soon as I inspected them but have tried them for hiking now.To me they seem inferior to bridgedales, inferior to thousand mile socks and very inferior to smartwool socks, despite costing a lot more.My feet are about 9.5 so the large should have plenty of room according to the size chart but no they are a bit tight. The elastic is too tight on the leg restricting circulation (I find that with many socks though not with bridgedale or smartwool, and often resort to cutting the elastic). But even if they fitted better I probably wouldn’t like them. If they fitted perfectly they might be acceptable at under £10.Probably my darn tough socks will go in the bin soon, an expensive mistake.

Not worth the money
Thought these would be great for my cold feet,,, especially for the price. Unfortunately they don't seem to help me, although they are very comfortable. I wouldn't pay the price again.

Lifetime guarantee
These socks are comfortable. They don’t bunch around the toes, they don’t crease underfoot, they wick sweat away from feet without dehydrating the skin.Yes, they are expensive but they do appear to be worth every penny. By comparison, I used to wear Bridgedales, merino light hikers mostly, but not anymore. Darn tough socks are really so much better. As to the longevity, time will show, but they have a lifetime guarantee printed on the packaging. It states “no strings, no conditions - for life.” So I think we probably do get what we pay for.

Too tight in the correct size
I am a sporty slim individual and they just dig in around the neck of the sock and make me itch. After a few hours you can see the impression of the elastic cutting into the ankle skin. I have slim feet. Its a shame really as they would be good socks if i could cope with them for more than a few hours.Yes they are the correct size. Looks like back to Falke socks for me.
