ALPS Mountaineering Velocity Air Bed

When I ordered this ALPS mountaineering Pvc-free air mattress, I really wasn't sure what to expect, considering I had not used an air mattress in years! I was pleasantly surprised upon opening the box. This is definitely PVC-free, and nontoxic. Pvc, as you may know, has an overwhelming, distinct chemical odor of vinyl(pvc=polyvinyl chloride.) so that is certainly as advertised! The mattress arrived neatly folded inside of its own drawstring pouch of the same green color, along with the pump, charger, and a car adapter! And of course the nozzle adapters to fit the inflation opening of the mattress(nozzle adapter has 3 sizes all in one part, only 2 of them are used for this item however as the 3rd size nozzle is way too skinny for either opening.) The mattress is made of a sturdy, strong material. A material that has no odors. I ordered the twin sized mattress. REMINDER!!! The air pump charger must be charged for a full 12 hours before the very first use! So if you need to use the mattress soon after you receive it, you want to plug this in right away! I had read the reviews and description of this note, yet I had forgot it by the time I opened up my mattress and needed to use it. The air pump works well once the battery is charged. If you worry of the small electric pump failing, there are manual pumps that I've seen here on Amazon which you may want to also check out. I think it would be a great backup to have, say for camping or some other outing. The manual air pumps I've seen are quite inexpensive. The pump that was included only took maybe 2 minutes or so to fully inflate the twin air bed. Note that there are two valves that twist open on the mattress. Use the large fully open valve first, to inflate it until it's almost full, then close that one tightly and open the second valve, which only allows air into the mattress, and won't let any air out. If you used only the second smaller valve that doesn't let any air out to inflate it from when it's flat, it would probably take a time longer and may also drain the pump battery faster as another reviewing kindly mentioned. The mattress, once fully inflated, is very comfortable, and is also quite sturdy for an air mattress. Not a lot of bouncing around like you may think of with air beds. It is a very good quality, very comfortable air bed! I haven't yet had to put it back into the pouch that it neatly arrived in, but when I need to, I would first open the large valve and let the majority of the air out on its own, then use the DEFLATE nozzle on the included air pump to remove the remaining air until it's totally flat again and can be easily folded and slid back into the drawstring pouch, which FYI the mattress was not stuffed into upon arrival, rather it had wiggle room enough that when I first opened the mattress pouch I was able to turn the pouch upside down and have the flat folded mattress simply slide right out. Thus, I doubt it will be difficult to pack up the mattress again like unto when it was new. I got this mattress at full price and did not receive any discounts or anything for my review. I'm writing this review so others can learn of my experience with this item. I would definitely recommend it! Two thumbs up!

I have been sleeping on air mattresses for about 18 years. They're the best for injured ribs or back. And you don't have to worry about bedbugs either. Twin size is all I need, because it's just me, and I weigh about 115 pounds. I used to get Coleman, because of the 1 year warranty. And I utilized that a lot! Then, I had a few Intex mattresses that lasted a year. The endurance in both brands has gone down so much, that I searched for another brand that was built to last. Reading the reviews on the ALPS Mountaineering Velocity, I decided to give it a try. Oh my! What a difference! You can just feel the quality as you unfold it, to air it up! It's not PVC! Yes, it's a little noisy. But really, I'm not bothered by that at all. When you climb into or out of, or whatever, the shape stays put. Unlike other air mattresses, that raise up where your weight is not. I have my own air pump, so the one provided is still in it's packaging, and I can't speak on that. I got the air just right, the first time I aired it up, and have not had to put any more air in it since then. I've been sleeping on this air mattress for a month, so far. And every night, when I climb into bed, I hear myself say, "I Love my new bed!" 😊 Two months now, still on the same airbed. Still loving it! Still haven't had to add any air. For those of you that don't know, the air in a mattress will get cold. To best combat that, in the Summer I cover mine with a thin blanket and a mattress cover. In the Winter, it's the mattress cover first, then an electric blanket, and top that with the thin blanket. It's so nice to crawl into a pre-warmed, cozy bed in the Winter. The bonus of that is, if you've got achey mussels, it's an all night heating pad. 😊 Update: It's been over 8 months now, that I've been sleeping on this Alps Mountaineering air bed, nightly. Still, have not needed to add any air and there are no leaks, or burst air chambers. It's as perfect now, as the first day I aired it up. Update: its been 2 years now, that I've been sleeping on this air mattress. Still, flawless. I did, finally add, just a little bit of air a couple of weeks ago. I'm so pleased with this mattress!!! If it ever fails, I'll buy another. Update: We’ll, here it is 2022 and I’m still sleeping on this mattress every night. Still in perfect condition. I’m about to buy a queen size one, for my sleeper sofa.

I couldn't wait to try this thing out! I charged the blower for about 12 hours and filled it up. It was looking great but then I heard a few light "pop's". The mattress is well built and a great design. I really wanted to to like this air mattress as I hate the normal soft and squishy ones. This one is firm and extremely comfortable. But that popping noise was one or two of the internal coils breaking the welds. I'm going to be optimistic and say it was a manufacturer defect and hope the customer service is as good as the mattress design. I'll update my review after I deal with customer service. As for the pump, it did indeed fill the mattress three times on one charge. I am more than impressed by this little pump. Yes, it could be a lithium ion battery version, but all in all its very robust for its size.

I have become a huge fan of ALPS products. This mattress is NOT one of those $20 you will find at your local box store. The fabric used is very tough. I like the coil structure and when aired correctly is very comfortable. This is one of those products that when you first open it and inflate it...you realize the extra cash you spent was a good investment! This mattress is only 6" thick. That means less air/time to inflate it. The inflation valve is a two piece, easy to operate and will allow for fast effortless deflating! The valve is locate on the side. Personally, for my use, I don't care for that and had rather it be on the end of the mattress. But, it is all about application. If your're using it in a small side entry tent where inflating from the end would be difficult...then the side valve position is great (that may also be why ALPS designed it that way). Money well spent. I would certainly recommend this product (and all ALPS products) to my friends and family.

My husband and I have been sleeping on this air mattress every night for seven months. It sits atop our Ikea mattress. I’ve never had to add air. I bought it because I sleep better on an air mattress but wanted one that was PVC-free. Out of the box there is no PVC smell, no odors. It’s much lighter in weight than my previous PVC mattresses but much stronger. The valve system took a bit of time to figure out but it and the pump worked very well. My only complaint is that I wish it (and all the other queen-size air mattresses I’ve tried) are not quite as wide as an actual queen-sized bed. I wrote this review now because I’m about to order a second one for guests.

...because we feel no rocks while sleeping under the stars! :-) I got tired of our cheapie Coleman inflatable queen beds springing leaks while camping, and my poor wife and child lying on the ground on top of a limp deflated air mattress. The general moaning and gnashing of teeth was unbearable. So I ponied up a few extra bucks and got one of these. Ahhh...! Gone is the horrible polyvinyl humanicide smell of a new Coleman mattress! Gone are the complaints from the discomfort of the giant air channel bumps of said mattress! Instead, my wife and daughter both claimed after their first night on our new ALPS Velocity that it was the most comfortable night's sleep they've ever had. As well, the material seems tougher than the vinyl of a cheap airbed- I guess it's some kind of thick nylon with an air bladder inside? I don't know, it sure seems tough, but I can't yet give it 5 stars until I've had it for a few years. For now, I'll knock a point off in all fairness. I think if this lasts for 5 years I could give it 5 stars on durability (I have a therm-a-rest that I've owned since the mid-80's and it's still going strong! Now that's 5 stars for sure). For now, we are delighted with this product and it's definitely a step up from those cheap $20 vinyl airbeds.

I really wanted to love this to use later for camping. In the meantime, I needed a temporary bed to sleep near my Mom to help her as she recovered from foot surgery. Every morning I woke up on the floor as the air leaked out. I tried this several nights in a row and ended up purchasing a different air mattress. I was so caught up in the day to day of caring for my "patient" that I missed the return window...major bummer! I LOVE Amazon and this is the first product that I have been disappointed in.

Pros: 1) Good quality 2) Lightweight 3) Rolls up into small size Cons: 1) Noisy - tends to wake me up while turning in my sleep. 2) Over-priced I have another very similar mattress by Intex, which I have been using for a few years now. It's a lot less noisy and it cost about 1/3 the price of this mattress. The fabric is probably not as durable, but it has proven to be a better value, and I sleep better without the noisy material of this mattress.

Bought this to replace a Coleman-type 8" vinyl mattress; we'd gone through 3 or 4 such mattress and they always start to leak air around the pump assembly. It was time to try something better, and indeed this is so much better. Not being made of vinyl means you don't have that vinyl stench. It's also more compact and lighter than those 8" vinyl air beds, yet the material feels very sturdy, and since there is no internal pump, it won't leak at those seams. The mattress is actually very firm. The pump will not function while plugged in, which is frankly a bit stupid and off putting - we thought it was faulty. Once fully charged, pump is good to inflate the mattress at least twice fully - you get a car plug to recharge on the go. Comes with it's own carry bag, made of the same sturdy material as the bed - not cheap stinky vinyl, and the bag is ample enough that you don't struggle to put the bed and pump into it. Clearly a cut above and seems very durable.

This is a good mattress, it keeps pressure well. The rechargeable air pups also works very well. I have purchased it to replace a PVC mattress that could not be used because of its odor.

Very good air bed. Used it for a camping trip last week. The only beef I have with it is a pump. While it fills the bed very quickly, it has only enough charge for one complete inflation. We had a car parked close so there was no problem recharging the pump. Unfortunately, batteries are not accessible for some reason.

10/10 for this product. No leaking, sets up wit.h self pump in minutes, and no chemicals, non toxic materials (unlike most air beds). This is my 4th air bed, the cheapest and yet the very best. Lies low, so get a cot if that is an issue

VERY COMFORTABLE MATTRESS. IT IS 6.5 INCHES THICK AND MUST BE BLOWN UP ALL THE WAY TO FEEL THE MOST COMFORTABLE. NO PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED IN MY SINGLE CAMPING TRIP WITH IT. WORKS FOR ME......
