Well after fiddling with the T1 for a day or so here are my initial impressions and will update this review in a years time. While technically a tape measure, the rest falls into the domain of digital devices and apps Like all digital devices, it is only as good as the software and firmware written for it Bluetooth, which is what this device uses is the main avenue of communication, needs to work seamlessly That will depend on the quality of your iPhone or iPad or Android device By that, it implies that you will need to have a good comfort level of working with digital devices and computers Many folks do not and therefor I do not recommend this for them The Rock Jobsite app allows you to receive measurements for your project The app is ingeniously layed out for your jobs, be it framing, door jamb and door or window dimensions You can input measurements from a plan into your project and lay them out side by side with your live measurements on the go. Another example is if your table saw worker is say setup some 20 ft away in a shed, with the T1 you can measure and send the measurements to the table saw worker as you go. The possibilities are quite impressive The T1 Tomahawk is, precise, well thought out and has a huge potential if Reekon decides to pursue this project over a sustained period of time. a few things to note 1) make sure your battery is fully charged on the T1 and your app device 2) verify the calibration is what you assume it is 3) keep both the firmware and software app up to date 4) though technically speaking this is a tape measure, it is actually a mini computer/calculator/ digital device Like all innovations there have been and will be teething issues that iron themselves out as time goes on At this moment, it seems well resolved. Yes you need to move the tape to get the T1 to set itself to zero Yes there at times be some lag The green laser is very helpful for further precision as well as the mini pencil slot The E paper and functions on the tape measure alone are worth the ticket Yes it is expensive, but I see the money spent not only on the device but towards a company that is " on to something unique and innovative" This T1 Tomahawk to our surprise came with the protective holster. In conclusion we recommend this device IF you are comfortable with digital technology , if not its better to stay analogue and spend your money on a course in carpentry

This is an amazing product, and a game changer for people who need reasonable accuracy and are trying to reduce human errors. First off: it will not replace my normal tape measure which is always on my belt. But I use it when I need to take a bunch of measurements in a row, scoping out a new project, or for "high consequence" measurements (would cost me more than $50 in money or time if I make a mistake). If it would blow your mind that a measuring tape would require a firmware update, then don't get this product. Just keep on doing what you're doing. Also, if you are not comfortable with the fact that it is electronic and you need to fairly often plug it in to charge, then don't get this product. Those things don't bother me and there is a lot to really like about this product. It greatly reduces errors and is super efficient. And if you're one of those people who never makes an error, then don't get this product. It has a big, bright display, works in all lighting and the e-paper list of measurement on the side is super useful. Its perpendicular laser is very useful and helps reduce errors when aligning things. Before purchasing, I thought the smart phone integration was a gimmick that I would never use. But it is very well designed, and I used it the first day I got it. Intuitive, and powerful. No more writing down numbers, then losing the paper, or mis-reading or incorrectly entering the numbers into a calculator. The Rock smartphone app (while relatively young in it's life) is pretty darn well designed and useful. My phone is in my pocket, but receiving all the measurements I'm taking, and you can organize by project and sub-project areas. I know all the tricks for doing fractional math, and can do it quickly. However, I end up making mistakes maybe 5% of the time, and this tool eliminates those errors. And wasted time/money in fixing the errors. This tool will not replace a caliper, if you need very high precision. But IMHO it is plenty accurate enough for most construction needs. Plan on spending an hour or two getting yourself familiar with the menus, buttons when you first get it. It's all very well designed, but like anything new, you should get familiar with it. Practice some with it and you'll realize the menu system on the tool (which at first might seem janky) is very cleverly designed for efficiency. I've only had it for 2 months, but it does seem very durable and well built. Great design for changing tapes when they wear out. It is fairly heavy, so it's not on my belt all day every day, but it *is* on my belt when I need it. When I first saw this product on a web page, I scoffed and told my wife that I would never spend $250 on a tape measure. But after doing some research, I did, thinking I could just return it if it was a piece of junk. So I get to eat my words. This is one of my favorite products in years. Reekon folks: great job! Looking forward to what else you come up with and/or improvements

Great digital tape measure with tons of features. Love the feel of this and the flexibility of doing inside measurements, end of tape measure measurements, finding the center and being able to do relative measurements from any distance. It is expensive but it also comes with an app that is extremely versatile. There are so many advantages with the tape that I bought a second one to take to the job site where we have a dedicated’ cut man’ that will have accurate measurements laid out in order. I can’t say enough good things about this…a real game changer.

This might be pricey, but man is it ever a hug timesaver. I've found the accuracy to be really good; love the lasers to take offset measurements and the firmness of the tape to be able to make tiny adjustments. Super easy to consistently measure to 1/16th of an inch.
