TROPICA - Red Orchid Bush (Bauhinia galpinii) - 10 SeedsWorth knowing: The South African red orchid tree is a small-leaved dwarf orchid tree reaching heights of 1,50 to 3 metres tops. It grows bushy and more like a climbing plant meaning it needs something to lean against. The plant can be perfectly cultivated indoors or in a winter garden. The exotic, filigree, red, 8 cm large flowers consisting of five single petals, appear mostly during spring and autumn. From May on, the tub plant can be moved outside as well. Origin: The red orchid tree is a native of Mpumalanga in the north-east of South Africa. Propagation: Roughen the hard seeds with sandpaper and leave them to soak in water overnight. The seeds will germinate even quicker being left to soak in hot water (Thermos flask) overnight. After that, they are pressed 1-2 cm deep into moist cultivation soil. Keep the container warm (20°-26°C) and evenly moist. Do in any case avoid waterlogging. The seeds germinate after 3-5 weeks, sometimes even later. Place / Light: The plant loves bright and sunny locations. Care: The red orchid tree requires well-drained, sandy soil as a planting substratum. Water a lot during summer and supply with tub plant fertilizer from April until the end of September. Care is easy and uncomplicated. Winter period: Choose a bright position during winter, best with surrounding temperatures between 12°-18°C. The plant can stay outside until shortly before the first frosts set in. Water less during winter. Bonsai Suitability: Yes
