A "chip" the size of a pea has cracked off, exposing the spongy material under it. There are smaller cracks and chips starting to form about an inch from where the larger pea-sized chip flaked off. Like I said in my original review, I questioned whether or not this purse was genuine leather, and now I know it isn't. I've never had a real leather purse do this in all my handbag-using experience (I am in my 50s). In my original review, I stated that I was willing to overlook this concern (since it is being advertised as "genuine leather") because of the seemingly high-quality hardware, but this new development is very disappointing. I'm keeping it because I tossed the tassle accessory that came with it (my original review explains why I didn't like the tassle attachment), and because I really need a black handbag with silver hardware. I'll just have to cover the "bald" spots with a black Sharpie. Because the handles are black, I don't think a casual observer will notice the handles. I'm just hoping the peeling doesn't continue, otherwise I will have to toss the bag or try to cut the short handles off and use the bag as only a crossbody. If you don't mind using your bag as only a shoulder/crossbody bag, this is a great bag. But if you wanted a satchel bag with the option of switching to a crossbody during times when you need to be hands-free, then look elsewhere. Since I wanted the latter type of handbag, I'm now giving this bag only 2 stars. **************************** ORIGINAL REVIEW: I couldn't find a good-quality black bag with SILVER hardware so I turned to desertcart, and I'm glad I did: Pros: -Medium size holds a lot but isn't so large that it's impractical for everyday use -Lining is a thick cool-toned bronze colored satiny material that looks very durable and chic -Top handles are rolled and have just enough cushion to them for comfort -Bag and detachable crossbody strap have a glossy sheen to them which helps keep a black bag from looking dull Cons: -There's a decorative attachment that holds three tassles, but I don't like two of the three and they're attached in such a way that you have to remove all three because they're all joined on the clip in a way that you can't take off only the one(s) you don't like - so I removed the whole thing -I'm not sure this bag is genuine leather - it doesn't smell like leather -Doesn't stand up on its own, but an structured insert can fix that if that's a concern Even though it may not be real leather, the quality of the silver hardware more than compensates for the overall look of the bag. Cheap hardware can make an all-leather bag look cheap also.
