Best popcorn out there. Great flavor and texture. A family favorite for three generations.

Love, love, love this small black popcorn. I like small hulless popcorn, so it doesn't get stuck in my teeth. My roommate in college used to bring this back to school after break, we didn't have it in our state at the time. When I found it on Amazon, I was so excited. I cook it the old fashion way, using a "Clubware" aluminum Dutch oven, put the oil (I use avocado oil) in the bottom, pour kernels in, evenly spread across the bottom in one layer, heat on high, cover. Pop and remove as soon as you don't hear any more pop. Pour in separate bowl, let cool for a little bit and corn will crisp up, season as desired. Some kernels only pop half open, these are my favorite ones, very crisp and crunchy. These are small but they don't hurt your mouth.

I feel bad for needing to write a bad review but it really needs to be said. I’m not sure if I missed something here but this popcorn does not cook in the microwave like all of the popcorn I’ve bought over the years. I regularly get Orville Redenbacher popcorn which pops nice and big with a few a popped kernels. I fill the popcorn to the line inside my special silicon microwave popcorn bowl and the bowl fills perfectly. Using this popcorn, it only fills the bowl half way and even though I poured the same amount of kernels the popcorn is half the size and I have a lot of unpopped kernels. If I put more time the small kernels that did indeed pop all burn. Perhaps this is great on a stove or some other method but did not work in the microwave. Did I get a bad batch? Unsure... just letting others who use the microwave to be warned.

Here's the best comparison I can come up with to illustrate the difference between this black popcorn, and the regular popcorn you eat at movie theaters or out of a microwave bag: Think of plain old mass market wheat bread. It's smooth and uniform in texture, yes? Think now of multi-grain or oat-nut bread. It's got more bit to it; it doesn't have a uniform texture; it has more flavor, and is a bit more work to chew on. And if you like that sort of thing, plain old wheat bread is kinda bland and boring. This popcorn is like the multi-grain bread. If you like popcorn and you like a more flavorful and interesting "mouth feel", then you might enjoy this popcorn. The puffs are small, as these are small kernels. The tiny puffs are crunchy as heck because you are getting a lot of crunchy kernel in there. The corn itself tastes great, I think. And it doesn't leave those thin hulls between your tooth and gums. These are tiny kernels and they take an extra long time to pop, so be patient. I ate this stuff all the time as a kid. It's not quite like I remember it, but it suits my adult pallet well.

Delicious! There is a difference with this and regular popcorn. It works really well in an air popper also.

I will say that this is a great tasting popcorn, but only about 3/4 of it fully popped. There were numerous kernels which had split open on one side but didn’t fully develop, as well as many kernels unpopped. Also, when it did pop it was quite small, but still seemed to have the same sized “core” as any larger corn. Rather chewy. We tried it twice, and lowered the heat a bit on the second round, to no avail. We ended up feeding it to the squirrels in the back yard.

After reading the description and multiple positive reviews regarding this popping corn, this popcorn lover was left disappointed. I used my usual technique of popping on the stove in a heavy bottom pan with 2 Tbps coconut oil to 1/3 cup of popcorn which has always been successful for me. I first melt the oil on medium-high heat, drop in 5 kernels and when they pop, add the rest of the popcorn and lower the temp to medium. It seemed to take long for the first 5 kernels to pop as well as the rest of the kernels when added. The popping was irregular and comparatively slow to other brands. I could see the kernels at the bottom through my glass lid when I shook the pot so knew there were many left, but the popping had almost completely stopped and I could smell it starting to burn so needed to take it off in spite to the pot being only half-filled. There were many old maids left, to the point of feeling wasteful. The popcorn was small, with visible black hulls in all if them, not very appetizing as it made the popcorn look burnt. The flavor was no different; I could not detect any "nuttiness" as described in a review. The expiration date was fine, so the issue was not that it was old popcorn. I'm at a loss at why this somewhat popular and will not be buying again. Glad I purchased only one.
