A good read for a sequel
This is the sequel to Nobody’s Girl but could be read as a stand-alone.A previous tragedy brought Clarrie and Meg in to each other’s lives. Now as WWII breaks out their lives, loves and families are affected in many ways. They are introduced to evacuees from London and open their house and hearts to them.Although I enjoyed the writing and the story I did feel that it was repetitive in places, going over the same things many times.

Powerful Sequel to a Delightful Story
An enjoyable sequel to a delightful story about the growing bond between a farmer’s daughter and a middle-class wife, who have both suffered tragic loss. Meg Chandler is now living with Wigmore and Clarissa Stratfield-Whyte at Robin Hill House, running their small farm, and finds romance with head gardener, Ralph. But the outbreak of World War Two is about to drastically change their lives and everybody’s around them. Ralph, along with other male staff, is called up, while Meg and all those left behind suddenly find their hands full with a group of evacuees arriving from London. Sharing the dramas of war, the household becomes like an extended family to Meg, with Clarissa at its heart. Tania Crosse writes vividly about The Blitz and the impact of war on human relationships is powerfully portrayed.

Emotional and heart-warming
This book is the perfect way to take the chill off a winter’s evening. The story covers the duration of WW2 and follows the life of a young woman called Meg as she faces the ups and downs of war and deals with its challenges. Meg has faced trauma in her past and the warm household where she now lives and her new-found love seem to act as therapy for her (as well as for the reader!). The relationships between the characters deepen throughout and in the end everyone finds the happy place that they have been searching for.

Intense reading
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from start to finish, i found it difficult to put it down at times, the story was compelling throughout and so well written. I would highly recommend the book to any avid reader, i also think it was an excellent follow up to Nobody’s Girl which was just as compelling.I now look forward to reading more from this brilliant author.

lovely story
It was so good to find the next book in the story of Meg and Clarrie downloaded onto my Kindle as I'd forgotten about it.Even after a gap of a few months, the plot and characters were smoothly fed back in, making it so easy for the reader to pick up where they left off.I found the number of characters just right and the ways that they were all linked was cleverly done. The author seems to have the mix of fact and fiction just right, whch made the book even more enjoyable.
