Where can i get a replacement usb cable? it's not a standard micro-usb plug.

Accepted Answer

Some micro USB cables are for charging of devices only and don't have the data wires.
So make sure your micro USB cable is capable of sending and receiving DATA to and from the devices its connected to.

What would you use this for, is it of value for someone who wants to repair electronics?

This is great for evaluating existing components that may have been salvaged from equipment destined for the bin, or for testing suspect components which have been removed from non-functional equipment for repair.  Where this shines-through, though is in its ability to sort through a quantity of identical or similar part number devices, for the purposes of matching actual performance characteristics for a final circuit build.In testing suspect components (diodes, transistors, MOSFETs, etc.) it is best to disconnect "n-1" leads from the host circuit, to eliminate the affect of the host device from the testing, and to prevent damage to other circuit components while evaluating the device under test.  That is, if you want to save the hassle of de-soldering a lead and getting right to testing, while maintaining the DUT attachment to the circuit board--instead of losing it after removal, like I seem to do now and then.

Question 3

When connected to a pc, do i have manual control over voltage/current. i need to test tunnel diodes that may get destroyed if over 1v is used?

You can select a PN Junction, BJT, MOS-FET, IGBT, J-FET or a Voltage regulator to run tests to built a graph and you are able to select the Voltage and Current run between some values. Not sure it is a direct fit to your application but  you can probably tweak it to fit, if you are willing to take some risks and run some tests.

Can the screen display I-V curves?

The display on the unit only gives you discrete values for the Xtor characteristics. The USB data connection allows I-V curves to be displayed on your PC. This I-V display software is supplied with the Product.
