Great with a butane stove in a mini camper van.
I will say I would never hike with this as it’s not super light and not collapsible but I camp in a little mini camper van in the winter and this thing is incredible for that! Even though I do have a CO2 detector ( and I highly recommend having one even in a tent if you’re running gas) I am not an expert so I cannot attest to the safety of this product. But, here is my set up.As I said I camp in the winter in a minivan with very little insulation. ( just whatever the factory put in). I use a small butane stove as I have read it is safer than propane inside but again, do your own research! This item fits directly on top of my butane stove without wobble. It’s not completely secured on the stove so you cannot bump it without it falling over. However, moving inside the van did not tip it over.In 30+ Degree weather, I put the butane stove on high and within five minutes this thing heated my van up so much that I had to open the door!On low, and he did it up nicely ( not blazing hot) where I could turn it off for a while until the temperature dropped 15 to 30 minutes later. I had the stove up on a shelf but I found that having a small fan to help blow the heat down helped that heat distribute throughout the van. I tried just leaving the butane stove on to see if it had the same effect, but it did not. The van never heated up like it did with this item. Also, I enjoy the fact that this item and encloses the flame. I personally would never sleep with a butane stove (or any other) but this kept me warm in the waking hours of the morning and evening when I was not driving or hiking. Again, I would not hike with it but it has saved me money and space in my little camper van.

Nice to use to enclose a flame. Could be used under most flame sources.
I tried this out at home inside a fireplace enclosure. I used a pint can of alcohol under it. It did generate heat. On the other hand, it also generated a lot of smoke. The top of this is painted. Most likely with a heat resistant paint but the flame caused the paint to burn and thus thick smoke. I have purchased a number of these but the plan is to burn the paint off the inside of these furnaces (outside) first. After doing such, they should be a good backup heat source.

Good Heat
The inside glows a pleasant cherry red on my butane stove, and the unit gives off plenty of heat. However, be advised that the bottom rim of this product isn't smooth and even. Therefore it sits at an angle on my grate, leaning so much that I was a little nervous it might fall over. Finally I bought some very large plain steel washers (be sure there's no plating to avoid toxic gasses!), and putting one underneath the bottom succeeded in leveling things out. However, it also cuts the heat output some, probably because it restricts the hot air flow into the heater. In my opinion this is a good, useful product. But it'd be a better one if the bottom rim was smooth and even.

Love it!
Love it!!! You can use it with a gas burner or even a backpacking stove to turn it into a viable heating source for a small space. Great deal for the price. I'm ordering a second one.

It took awhile...
to receive these, but I figured that was due to coming from China. They came intact and undamaged. I haven't had to use them yet but they look sturdy and will fill the bill.

Weird little thing.
It looks cheap. It feels cheap. I have babied it so it broken so it hasn't had the chance to break. Tossing it on top of my Solo stove and I can't believe the heat it throws off the the sides. I got it right before summer, so it has been used all of twice but I was impressed both times. It takes up a lot of room in my bag, but after a damp day it is nice for the hands. It is better then without.

great tent heater
I use this inside my 3person tent (4 season) using alcohol gel burners set up on a small board and it makes the going to bed and getting up in the morning super comfortable. So far I've used it at -15 C. and It does the trick. I do ventilate a little to allow oxygen replacement. It's so nice to wake up in the morning, fire this up, lay in the bag for an extra 10 minutes or so and then proceed to get dressed comfortably. I've used both the 'wick' version and the 'just gel' version of the 'sterno' type fuel. 'Wicked' will burn for about 3-4 hours, straight gel, about an hour + a bit. The gels burn hotter because of the heat generated. i have it used for just lying in the tent and reading for longer periods and find that I want to be sure to allow extra ventilation for the longer time period. It's a great, strudy, well built little heater.

Great little heater
Set up the heater outside in minus 7 weather and this little heater put out a surprisingly large amount of heat for it's size. Can be used for heat and cooking at the same time. Will be great for winter camping and keeping the weight down ......no wood stove.Used it and it works great.
