what is the use by date?

Unable to answer as it depends on date of manufacture and when you order it. I myself take no notice of sell by or use by dates for dry goods, I have used a packet of the batter mix 1 year after its sell by date and it was perfectly good.

does the batter mix contain eggs?

hi, no it doesn't the ingredients are flour which contains calcium carbonate, iron, niacin, thiamin. it also has raising agents. It's very nice and makes delicious battered cod and sausages. i get 2 or 3 goes out of a packet for the 2 of us. hope this helps

Had anyone used it to make scraps?

Yes and its good, best mixing sparkling water or beer to get great batter and oil (vegetable) at 170c
