well, having enjoyed spider webb's 'great book of tattoos' and 'big book of tattoos', i was relishing the thought of this little number: you may have guessed, i was disappointed.as a collector of original examples of tattoo flash, albeit on a modest scale, and being an admirer and owner of many of the schiffer volumes, i was horrified by this!there are no credits to artists, no information as to dates or origin of the pieces, lots and lots of third rate designs(many of them doubled up throughout the book, with increasingly poor draughtmanship.) and when did some old crests and biscuit depictions of bagpipe players from the 1970s qualify as 'historic flash'?i would advise you not to buy this book- get the taschen '1000 tattoos' if you are just dipping, the same author's books of archive photos, 'stony knows how' by alan govenar (also published by schiffer) or the newly re-issued 'sailor jerry flash' books.when you see how those books present you with top-notch art and/or info you will understand my reaction to this.2 stars is a generous review, so 'caveat emptor'!
