awesome monitor, everything looks great
I absolutely love this monitor. Connected effortlessly to my macbook air using a DVI to minidisplayport adapter. A lot of reviews say that the brightness was unbearably high out of the box, and required manual dimming. However, I noticed no such thing; the brightness was perfect right out of the box (and I usually prefer dimmer monitors!) Regarding tilting, I'm absolutely baffled as to why many reviews here say that this monitor cannot tilt, or requires unscrewing and then rescrewing to manually tilt it; maybe I am misunderstanding what "tilt feature" means when it comes to monitors? In fact, I found it very easy to adjust the tilt of this monitor (even the instructions say that the monitor can be tilted up to 15 degrees!) without having to unscrew the base. One small quibble I have about the assembly of this monitor is that connecting the base to the monitor itself required pushing together two pieces with an unexpectedly substantial amount of force (I'm a 180 lb guy who lifts weights regularly, so I believe it should be a little fair to say that it shouldn't require that much force). At first, it seemed to me that the two pieces (the base and the slot on the back of the monitor) did not "snap" together. In fact, there was even a thread on the Acer community site where someone had the exact same problem (google "acer g236hl base", and go to the thread "Attaching G236HL Monitor to Base") and the responses in that thread were all completely useless. I eventually found that you simply have to push the base piece into the back of the monitor with a very strong push, and eventually it will very audibly and noticeably *snap* together, and it will then be locked together very securely. However, the force required to get the snap seems to be very large, and I can see someone who doesn't know this that will simply place the monitor on the base without snapping it together, which will lead to a very wobbly monitor (as the OP of the thread mentioned above accurately complained)

Quality Display
Acer G236HL Bbd 23-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor I recently built a computer for a local business. They wanted a nice monitor to match the beautiful performance and aesthetics. This monitor was their choice. Understand this: The monitor is NOT an IPS-based panel. You will not get true-to-life color reproduction of the sRGB color space. It is a basic TN panel. That does not mean the monitor doesn't have a pretty picture. If you need a budget monitor, this is perfect. I could easily dock a star for the lack of DisplayPort input(s), or something else that's pretty much irrelevant for the average person, but I won't. I prefer IPS panels, DisplayPort inputs, HDMI inputs, etc. But I have been building computers since I was 10 years old, and I do not settle for anything less than the most affordable best...I do not need a $10,000 display...but I'm not afraid to drop $1,000 for one either. I am a fan of Acer LED displays. My wife had a netbook made by Acer, and the display was rich in color. This is the same way. It doesn't look washed out as some others do. All in all, this is worth the money. A 23-inch FHD monitor with DVI and VGA inputs for $100 is not a bad purchase.

Terible viewing angles, but as a monitor it works okay
I am okay with his monitor for this price, but do not expect a high end monitor at this price point. So lets go into the pros and cons; Pros: 1. Affordable 2. Good resolution (full HD is certainly plenty on a screen this size) 3. Matte screen is easy on the eyes 4. Cables are included, both DVI and VGA cables are included, however there is a caveat I will mention in the cons 5. Stylish ultra thin design 6. Low energy consumption Cons: 1. Terrible viewing angles, the worst I have seen in an lcd screen not on a laptop in years. 2. The blacks are not deep, and contrast/ brightness adjustments do not help (this might be more a function of the bad viewing angles) 3. Assembly could be easier (you have to push the monitor onto the stand very hard to mount it, the tilt mechanism has to be loosened to be usable) 4. VGA cable is not SVGA so it cannot output 1080p signal, why Acer included a cable incapable of powering the monitor's full resolution is beyond me. 5. No Vesa mounting holes All in all this monitor is okay, but if I had to do it over again I would have chosen a different one. While I like the design and am fond of the matte display; the poor viewing angles are a bit of a letdown, and the lack of mounting options is also rather unfortunate. Update 6/8/15 Another customer informed me that there is an adapter available to make this monitor Vesa mountable, however, the price of that item seems to negate any cost benefits of this monitor. On a positive note it does mean that if you don't have any plans of mounting this now, you can change your mind in the future and mount it for a fraction of the cost of a whole new monitor.

This is a very good monitor. Plug and Play
This is a very good monitor. Plug and Play, no driver to install. Not sure if that's good or bad, most other companies use drivers for their devices, the pc finds it no problem but assigns a standard generic driver from microsoft from 2006. I am not sure getting the most out of it. it works perfectly though, highest setting, nice bright picture, clear. I think it could be a tiny bit richer, hard to explain, I have a 24" dell monitor and it seems the colors are a bit richer and deeper, tried to work the settings but really couldn't get it exactly how I wanted it. Again very bright and clear. For the money and size it great.

Great monitor for a great price!
I bought this monitor as a secondary monitor for a new PC I had just built. The screen is great and really big, I ended up using it as my primary monitor just due to the layout of my desk and it works great and is a very reasonable price. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys computers, gaming, is in school because it is such a great price and is pretty big. It may not be as sharp as some of the higher end monitors, but it is not noticeable. The only problems I had was the DVI cable is very short, like 12 inches and the power cord is much longer, which can make for an awkward set up. I also had a little trouble securing the screen to the second part of the stand, though it just took a little extra pressure. None of these problems swayed me from giving this a 5 out of 5!

Not Worth It
I normally try to stay positive when it comes to reviewing but after purchasing this monitor I felt the need to write a somewhat harsh review describing how much I dislike it, and the issues I had with it. When I got this monitor I was very excited to replace my aging Dell 2007wfp that was almost 10 years old, however from the moment I turned on my Acer G236HL, my opinion of it never wavered from one of disappointment. The monitor was incredibly bright and the colors were very washed out. In my attempt to reduce the brightness and adjust the saturation in order to reduce the washed out colors I learned 3 very important things: First, was that even at 0 brightness this monitor feels way too bright, I thought it was a joke at first but even at 0 its just too bright for me; Second, that the OSD (on screen display) for changing color settings is horrible and confusing to navigate; And Third, that there is no adjustment for saturation or really many manual adjustments at all, there are a few presets to choose from that make the picture a slightly different shade of washed out, and that's about it. I made a really concerted effort to try and fix this monitor and make it look good, i looked up ICC profiles (virtually nonexistent for this monitor which i think would be a huge negative point for those who need color accuracy) I checked the included install disk for any drivers and discovered that the disk is just a digital copy of the manuals that already come with the monitor. I looked up other peoples settings, calibrated my display in windows several times, and while all these things slightly improved the picture the colors still were still significantly worse than my old Dell monitor. In the end I discovered that the main issue is that the viewing angles are so bad on this monitor that viewing it from even a slightly unsatisfactory angle in anything less than perfect lighting would make it look this way. I tried stacking the monitor on top of some books which actually improved the situation but did not fix it, and even when I was able to look at the monitor from the very narrow optimum viewing angle I don't think this panel is even capable of rendering anything that could be described as black, black just becomes gray with this monitor. All of this was made moot however because anytime I shifted in my desk chair, I was no longer within the acceptable viewing range of this screen and thus was back to square one. In the end, I could not live with this and returned this monitor. I felt like a failure, I take great pride in fixing my problems and felt as though it was my fault that I simply was not technical enough to remedy the issues I had with this monitor which had excellent reviews on Amazon. However should you shop around a bit you will find that this panel has much lower review scores on other sites such as Newegg, many of them describing problems that mirror my own. Therefore with this information and experience in hand I must come conclude that this is simply an unsatisfactory product. Before I purchased this monitor I was of the opinion that a computer monitor was a computer monitor, and that if it was the resolution I wanted and had good reviews then there were simply no other factors to worry about. This of course is simply not true, and If you are still considering purchasing this monitor after reading my review then I would simply ask that you make an informed decision and do some homework on different styles of LCD monitors; namely TN (twisted nematic which is the technology this Acer monitor uses) and IPS (interplane-switching) as well as things such as color accuracy, contrast ratios, and black levels. there are several websites you can use to help you make these informed decisions prad.de, digitaltrends, and TFT Central. These are just a few sites that do exhaustive testing of many different monitors and often provide optimal settings as well as test the truthfulness of the manufacturers claims. The Epilogue to my story is that I ended up purchasing an Asus VS239H-P to replace this one. While the Asus is about 25$ more than this Acer model, the value of the features and quality you get with the Asus model far outweigh the cost disparity.

LCD Montior A dream to have!!!!!
This is a really good monitor. HAs excellent resolution and has an easy interface to adjust brightness and contrast. This is a really goo monitor but as you may know, there has to be some down side. The one thing that I want to complian about is that it does not have a HDMI input. That would make life so much easier when I want to connect my Laptop to it, but the monitor did come with two types of connections. Good thing to because my desktop only accepts DVI and my Laptop has a VGA port. so I just have one laying there unused until I need my laptop. Otherwise a really good monitor for the money and I garuantee that this sd the one for you. Also, I like the style and the stand that it has.+++ A must buy monitor for those that like being entertained. :0)!!!

There's viewing angles, just not much!
I bought 2 of them. They are very bright, and have great calibration options. The color is excellent, and the contrast is very good for a monitor in this price range.... but... THE PROBLEM - Viewing Angle The optimal viewing angle allows for about 10 degrees of excellent features, but outside of looking directly at these monitors and/or swaying your body left or right (and depending on how far off center on your screen that you are looking at), then the color goes as far as becoming a complete negative image. Sorry, that was a bit confusing. What I am saying is, if you are trying to look at the monitor from anything other than the perfect height and angle, the color is severely distorted. I have two monitors set up on my system, and I have to readjust my body to match this color washout. Sometimes, I find myself just trying to find the best angle to view screen, and under certain lighting conditions, I can't find a comfortable viewpoint. Anything over 30 degrees of angle begins to reverse the colors on the opposing side of the screen. This is the same on VGA and DVI connections. Best if viewed at exact eye height to the center of the monitor, and with the screen just slightly tilted backward. Position your body so that your shoulders are centered to the monitor that you are viewing. Make sure to avoid any direct light sources that could wash-out colors in any ares that could reflect that light at you from the monitor. The monitor is amazing in every other aspect. Very lightweight, and extremely thin! I have a 10 in. tablet that has a similar weight to these monitors. The calibration options are top notch, and has all the possible functions for special tweaks. If you plan to edit photos, then you probably are not looking at cheep monitors, but if you are are photo-buff (or rely on color accuracy), then pass these up if you can spend more. Multiple monitor setups with these creates interesting color anomalies at the furthest reaches of the screens. In my experiential non-professional opinion, not the best purchase I've made. Although, strangely tolerable. For the thousands of people reviewing this product without informing people of the terrible color washout. Really, most of the cheep TV's at wallyworld have better viewing angles that preserve it's colors even at the extreme end of the viewing angles. I'm not sure how these monitors are able to trick so many people into thinking it was what they wanted. I'll probably eat these words, but I just don't think the 5-star reviewers have seen or fully appreciate quality monitors. The sacrifice made here to meet this price point is more screen inches at the cost of a crippled viewing angle.
