Read with Your Grandson
A great book. My grandson and I both read it at the same time then discussed what was happening in the book. A real glimpse of history. A fun learning experience.

Unbelievably great reading
Of all the books of Michael P. Spradlin's that I have been privileged to read this is by far the best. The manner in which he draws you into the story is nothing short of brilliant. He begins by letting you see what led to Henry lying about his age in order to enlist in the Marines. You are further entwined in the lives of Gunny and Jams, Henry's or as he's called Tree. All of the stages of progression from entrenched soldiers to prisoners kept me turning page after page until the end. If I could give this more than a 5 star rating I would. Well done Michael, well done.

EXCELLENT HISTORICAL FICTION FOR BOYS
Bought this for my 4-th grade son, who likes historical fiction, especially about wars. HE LOVED THIS BOOK, and others by Michael Spradlin. Just the right level for him, and the main character is a 15-year old, so boys can identify with it. I read it, too, and also found it very well written and true to history.

One of my favorite books!
This is one of the best world war II books that I have ever read. I finished it in less than a day and couldn't put it down. 10/10 would recommend!!

There are better ones
I bought this for my son who is very into WW2 everything. He loves the Alan Gratz books, but he hated this one. He said it was boring.
